Trade Koivu?

Would you do it, why and for what?

He's not getting any younger. If he gets hot, his trade value will be high again and with the strike coming up, he'll be getting on a bit in age.

I think it's time to cash him in, you?

Getting up there in age? The guy is 28 or 29 years old. He has at least another 6 or 7 years left where he can be at the top of his game.

Well, a few problems with this idea:

- Koivu is often injured. Heck, right now he's got a bum leg.

- Koivu's new contract is over $4 million dollars, is it not?

- Some may look at his 70+ point season last year as a bit of a 'career year'.

Especially with injuries, you're lucky to get 60 games out of Koivu some season. That, coupled with his contract, I think you'll find the market for Koivu there, but I do not think that Habs fans would be at all pleased with the returns of a Koivu trade.

It doesn't make any sense to trade the most popular player, and captain of the Habs, for a couple of 'maybe' prospects or a draft pick at the moment. You can't get a stud young player for him due to those conditions I mentioned above. I think it's best for the Canadiens to hold on to him. Especially now, when during the rebuilding process, he will be needed to help keep the ship afloat.

Trade is a go!
Look for newcomer Chris Higgins to be groomed to replace Koivo; I have been following Higgins since he was 14; he is the REAL DEAL. Why do you think they assigned him #88; Expect Chris to be one of Habs leading point scorers; He likes to assist; But he loves to SCORE;Komisarik and Chris have been close friends for years, and worked out this off season under the tutelage of Alexi Nikorov. Thats the same Alexi that helped develo Darius Kasparitus, And Alexi Yashin.
Higgins will have Habs fans standing in their sets in awe in no time flat; Chris is the MAD Dog that will protect the goose that laid the "Golden Egg".

Montreal trading Koivu would be plain stupid. What the hell would the point be? He's worth a whole lot more to Montreal than to any other team. To add to that, we've traded a lot of captains over the last decade and thats not a good thing.

Personnaly I would not trade him. Only if we could get a top notch players. Koivu is montreal most popular player. He's allways getting the biggest ovation when his name is called. He's are captain aldought I would give it to some one else but I just dont know who would be good enough for that role cause we lack of leadership. If were going to trade him were going to have to take is c away first. I just dont see it happen. For alot of fans it would be to hard to swalow. And how do you think that the players would react. The day that he decide its over its going to be when hes an ufa. I just cant see gainey trading him right now.

Chris Higgins didn't choose #88 , it was assigned to him. He hates that number with passion and will change it eventually. But this kid has a very bright future and captaincy written all over him.

Montreal would get nothing for Koivu. He's constantly hurt, his career high in points is 71. They'd be better off keeping him, because Canadiens fans would hate what you got in a trade. He's worth more to Montreal than anyone in the league.

No way. If fans are pissed now, they'd sure love trading away thier adopted son and captain.

I think most leaf fans would do the Wendel Clark/Mats Sundin trade over again...Wendel is/was a huge fan favourite but often injured, more so than Koivu probably. Looking back it's an easy choice now...this seems similar.
Couldn't hurt to shop him, once montreal is a contender Koivu won't be as effective.
Course fans love him too much and they'd force management into trading for him...(Clark trade #2, don't remind us)
