Thank you, vorky! I like and read KHL's publications too but to be honest I don't like them very much. As they are the official league page, they tend to go with tangible elements (like numbers) to keep things objective. While it's totally understandable, I prefer a more relaxed approach, including the writer's opinions to some extent, if possible.

In this sense, the first one you shared about Barys (and it seems there is more to that on the same site) looks better to me.

KHL announced yesterday the recruitment of new writers for league´s website (dont know if only for russian version or for english too). We will see if quality grows.

Sorry for going off-topic here but I can't recall the name of a Russian sports portal I used to browse regularly. I thought someone here could give me a hand. Mainly it had a black and maybe orange background. It covered many sports but had good amount of hockey news. I saw it presented as a source here a few times. Actually, I was recommended to check that website for news about KHL. It drives me crazy. On the tip of my tongue yet I cannot tell. What is that? It must be one of the most popular ones.

Just three minutes into a preseason KHL game, Barys Astana's Damir Ryspayev goes crazy and tries to fight everyone on the HC Beijing Kunlun Red Star's, including their bench. The game was cancelled after the brawl and Ryspayev has been suspended indefinitely.

I am glad some priest did not come up and say "If he beats you, he loves you." and let it go.

Regarding Ryspayev's remarkably faithful rendition of a WWF Royal Rumble, how exactly does a) one of the officials not tie him up and remove him from the ice after at LEAST the third guy he punches, and b) not one guy in red stand up for a teammate? I'm pretty sure I saw one of the trainers grab at Ryspavey before a player on the bench bothered to get into it with him.

On a lighter note. Really anticipating watching Admiral this year as they have a tonne of awesome young talent. Kazakov has already been lighting it up in the preseason, Tkachev scored a sick goal today with a ridiculous shot.

It's a pre-season tournament held in Kazachstan with propabaly kazach refs that don't even work for the KHL. And Ryspaev is one of the few Kazachs on the only kazach KHL team. That explains the refs being spectators. That doesn't excuse them in any way.

There should be some discipline towards the team too. and KHL teams should probably stay away from this tournament.

But how surprising is it for Nazarov to be the coach of the offender's team? Ryspayev (0 goals in his senior career, hundreds of penalty minutes) was merely the coach's pawn. We had an infamous case like this in Slovak league years ago, where a team sent a rarely used player to the ice to beat up the referee (videoclips of that can be found online somewhere).

Watching the game today, I gotta say CSKA's new uni's look really sharp. Love the blue on the shoulders. That being said, on TV they sure do look like Lev's old uni's.

It was a nice first game, but there was a noticeable difference in terms of intensity compared to the finals last season. Still, CSKA doesn't seem too affected by the loss of Radulov and Zaitsev, they can contend for the Cup again this year. Magnitka looks sharp, as they did last year.

Hmm, I would say on the contrary, other than Kiselevich defense looked really weak, Scott had a pretty terrible first game, Telegin and his hands of stone didn't fit the first line at all.. They have a lot of figuring out to do and the team is obviously weaker than last year's. Not really surprising since they replaced Zaitsev with absolutely nothing.

Magnitka looked really good though, that is true. Forward depth is an obvious issue but there is time to fix it.

I'd say that CSKA with their superior physical preparation and energetic, grinding style are bound to look better than most early in the season, but losing Radulov is a huge blow, because it was the skill depth that prevented them from winning the Cup last season. I don't think they are the favorites in the West at all (cash bag is).
Magnitka looked great, glimpses of young Semin there as well.

A couple of mistakes and a shaky Fasth cost CSKA.

No way you give Mozyakin that much room to tee up a slapshot. Timkin had a nice win on the boards to set up Osala's break and goal, though I will say the goal that Fasth got pulled on took a deflection off Stolyarov's stick, so not sure what he could do there. Sorokin did make some nice saves on Lee, Kovar, and Semin in particular.

I thought Da Costa acted like an idiot most of the game. Holloway-Popov-Petrov line brought good energy though.
