Glad you've started following the team what I love the most about hockey is that you can "never see it all" so to speak.

Today my team played ENL2 champions Gosport Devils. We were up 4-1 after the 2nd then completely collapsed in the 3rd, losing 7-4. I didn't dress for the game as I was too ill to be able to make it through the warmup, but I went along to watch anyway. There was a woman sat near me, who clearly knew how to play the game better than the players, someone appoint this woman as head of the EIHA or a high coaching position, she knew it all, she will develop NHL players for us. She was screaming in the ear of the baby she was holding, the kid will have a higher hockey IQ than Gretzky from listening to his mum Seriously, if that was one of the players parents, I feel so bad for that guy, she was shouting at them as if they were under 12's.

There were also non-checking beer league dribblers (I saw one of their jackets), goading ENL league players, mostly our goalie who started his career at that club. I have never seen fans goad a former player before, most are given a loud standing ovation during the line-up callouts. They were so bad even my dad was getting pissed off and chirping them, after trying to stop me from doing it. Those ***** think they are great in their ****** little 165x75ft rink, but their defense are fat and slow and we skate rings around them on our olympic sized ice.

4.5/5 Classless Subban's.

IMO managers, secretaries and treasurers are the backbone of the system since we would have no organised fixtures without them.
I live in Southend, so my nearest team is probably either Romford or Chelmsford. I might e-mail and ask if they're doing any courses in the summer for someone whose looking to become a manager or coach or even a scout. Scouting would be cool.

Think I'll do that now. If it doesn't fall back then I'll keep you updated.

Chelmsford is closer, and I'd go for them anyway. It's a nicer environment, and the junior club is better IMO.

Scouting? What's that? We don't do scouting here clubs develop their own players. They do a little bit of poaching, Invicta fans can tell you all about that but I wouldn't class it as scouting since they don't hire anyone to do it.

I guess that Scouting = Coaching really. Would you think it'd be best to approach Chelmsford first or the EIHL/ENL/IHUK?

Contact Chelmsford first, they will actively sort it out for you with the EIHA because its generally very difficult to get parents to do it, they should welcome you with open arms. IHUK have nothing to do with juniors, they are in charge of the EIHL and the national teams, which is literally the only thing they actually do, stupid I know, we need 1 unified governing body.

Interesting article http://www.heraldscotland.com/sport/...rowds.16018828

It's great they're getting a larger fanbase, while also actively keeping the football culture away from the sport unlike some other teams - I'm looking at you Romford!

Am I right in thinking that every now and then a game is shown on SKY?

Yea there are occasional Friday night live games on Sky and a weekly highlights programme, but that gets uploaded to youtube like a week later. And IIRC the playoff weekend is also broadcast live.

Its better than nothing but its no great shakes.

There should be. Regular season is finished now so I'm assuming that's why there aren't any scheduled games on the sky sports website for the next 7 days. I don't know if they have renewed the contract for next season though, it doesn't affect me, I don't have sky sports.

Reason I ask is that I got SKY this past weekend and saw a highlights sort of programme on there so was wondering if they had games on there every now and then. Will e-mail Chelmsford sometime this week work depending.

The weekly roundup show isn't very good. It's hosted by the unpopular Dave Simms and some woman who's name escapes me, they spend more time talking rubbish than showing game footage, and the game footage isn't even of the most recent games.

regarding sky's coverage if they actually were interested in building the sport then you'd see it more often on sky sports news. as it is you get the odd NHL highlight and whenever something crazy happens they show that.

I'm not sure if it's still the case, but at one point the league paid sky to show hockey.

Is anyone on here actually headed up to Nottingham for the Elite League's playoff weekend?

I was tempted until they dropped the England vs Scotland game from the itinerary, £60+ for three games isn't great value at all especially when the national game was usually the best one of the lot (though that may be because I'm a prospect junkie). Going to the EPL weekend instead but not actually going to watch the games, it's doubling up as a friend's stag do so I'm just staying in the pub getting plastered with my and his better halves while he's in the Skydome. Same as last year, then

Lurking THF today and I actually found an intelligent insightful post!

An argument against the EIHL significantly dropping import numbers in the near future.

Quote:
a lot of Steelers, Giants and Panthers fans are used to "high" quality import hockey, from the ISL through to the current EIHL. I don't know about over in Canada but over here ticket prices never drop, they stay the same go up, as they do in football. Is £12 for a student good value for current-level EIHL hockey? I think so. Take out two or three imports and replace them with average/below average Brits and I'm not so sure.

I don't oppose a drop in import numbers in the EIHL if the Brits that replace them are decent, and if the top EPL Brits moved up to fill the vacant roster spots then I'd definitely support it, but that won't happen due to them getting higher wages and more ice time at Guildford, Slough etc than they would at Edinburgh or Hull. Factor in travelling, day jobs, etc and you won't end up with a better league or even the best crop of British players in the Elite League...could Edinburgh entice one of the Greener brothers north of the border? Doubt it, they'd just replace imports with poor SNL quality players, while Steelers could possibly take Brits from the Steeldogs, Nottingham from Peterborough, Coventry from Telford, MK or maybe Peterborough...it could end up making the gap between the big teams and little teams bigger.

The main point to all this is that it's no good tinkering with import numbers in the top league to improve the British game, you need a better junior system and developmental system in place to produce more numerous and more talented Brits, and then you can look at reducing import numbers.

What a great effort by the Clan tonight! Sumo in goal had his work cut out for him and he got lucky a few times but he kept them scoreless through two periods while the Braehead forwards were trying to work out the Nottingham goalie. Then in the first minute of the 3rd period, Jade Galbraith finally got one to work and with two goals late in the game Braehead won by 3-0.

Now to go to Nottingham and finish the job. Sumo will have to pull off another big game to do it though. It will be hilarious if the finals are in Nottingham without them being in it.

I can see it happening to be honest. Our play is all over the place, one night we can be godly, the next night complete trash.

Although the combined 4 games at the NIC have a score of Panthers 13 - 4 Clan. Closest game was 4-3 win for the Panthers.

To be honest, at the end of the second period the score could have been anything from 4-0 Nottingham to 3-2 Clan. Both teams had some great chances and the two goalies were riding their luck a bit (in the second period, a cross crease pass to a Panther forward gave him a gaping net and he somehow managed to miss the net completely.)

On the whole of the game, it could have been a one goal game and Braehead probably could have been happy with that. The last two goals were pretty soft and I think the Panthers would be pretty mad at their defensive lapses after playing quite a good game.

Will be an interesting game on Saturday.

Am I correct in that no matter the playoff winner that Belfast is the UK champ and will represent UK in the Continental Cup by virtue of being regular season top points getter?
What does being Challenge Cup or playoff winner garner besides bragging rights?

Yes it's the league champion who goes to the continental cup. It makes more sense to me because our playoffs are just a home/away aggregate matchup in the 1/4's, then semi's and the final are 1 game played in Nottingham, rather than having a 7 game series. So you have to be more consistent to win the league.

In traditional British sports fashion the league winner is the most prestigious trophy. The challenge cup is just a nice shiny trophy, and the playoffs are there because that's a hockey thing. It's because in football the EPL doesn't have playoffs, and winning the EPL is better than winning the FA cup.

Yep the league champs get into Europe, just like the football.

The Challenge cup doesnt really seem to be that wanted by fans, the playoffs is something they want, but the league is the big one.

The Cup and the playoffs are just trophies, there is no bigger significance in winning them.

I think they should get rid of the challenge cup, so the regular season can finish earlier or have an international break like we're supposed to. If the season finishes earlier there is more time for the GB team to get together, or for longer playoffs.

Just read that Tuesday's game was the first time this season Panthers have been shut out

Scrap both EPL cup and the CC and introduce an FA style cup. Elite, EPL,ENL teams. There will be issues, e.g. Nottingham needing 15K+ rent for a game, they wouldnt get that from an ENL team.

Needs tweaking and it would never happen, reverse seed it, if needs be seed it so that bigger teams go away to the smaller teams.

No. In ENL1 Invicta beat Slough 24-2 the other week.
