Boudreau out.

Bruce Boudreau was head coach of the NHL's No. 1 defence, power-play and penalty kill this season. Fired.
Brutal profession.

He'll be hired very quickly by someone.

Both, but my biggest gripe is how bad the hockey was. I've put up with some bad, bad hockey over the years but last season just killed me.

In his defense though, it was a lost season before he even arrived. I've all but sworn off making judgements based on performance in garbage time. Next season will be a fairer test.

I agree. Considering what he had to start with I think he did okay. I hope for and expect improvement next year.

Is there any coach whose win record looks good next to Boudreau?

I'll bite.

1248-574-314-10, (223-130 playoff record, 9 Cups in 28 appearances)
801-464-77-118, (117-93 playoff record, 3 Cups in 17 playoff appearances)
409-192-0-80 (41-40 playoff record, 0 Cups in 8 appearances)

That would be Scotty Bowman, Joel Quenneville, and Bruce Boudreau, respectively.

Amazing stat: when Boudreau has coached an NHL team for a full season, the team has never failed to win their division. He's also coached in eight Game 7s, and gone 1-7.

That's my thing. Bruce seems like one of those coaches who teaches you how to be great and win, but can't get you over the hill to actually win it all(like Marty Schottenheimer in the NFL).

That's some interesting technique by Elliott on that third goal.

Antoine Roussel with a hat trick of stupid penalties makes Hartsy & Prout look like minor leaguers. His last one where he body blocks a guy at center ice while the Stars were attacking took the cake.

Boudreau is a top tier coach. no question. but I am not sure Boudreau to come here as there will be some better jobs available. St Louis will likely be among them......(Wow, the kill Hitch sentiment is 90% of the post-game Posts on the Blues board).

And that is most likely a matter of bad luck.

Boudreau's playoff record is skewed by a perverse game 7 record. He is no Marvin Lewis (of the Bengals) whose 0-7 playoff record IS the function of being a crappy coach. Thanks for extending him another year Mike Brown

A game seems fair to me. His hit was reckless but it wasn't necessarily intent to injure the head the way Orpik's was.

Still images can be misleading, of course, but...

Yeah that doesn't really show me anything. If you remember the Malone-Foligno hit, I was convinced that it was head, as every angle showed, until one angle popped up and made it clear that it was whiplash.

Anyways, I'm not debating the point of contact, my point is that when you go in for an open ice hit at that speed you don't really have that much control over the exact point of contact. Compare that to Orpik's elbow.

^Oh, Orpik's was worse for sure and much later. I think one game is sufficient and I probably wouldn't have debated two either.
