Available Defensemen?

I'm just wondering which teams have some decent dmen that would be available?

Which teams have an abundance of them?
Toronto
Chicago
Colorado
St. Louis

Which teams need them?
New Jersey
Pittsburgh
Atlanta

I'm sure I missed some...

As a Devils fan, I will say we don't need defensemen, we need GOOD defensemen. We currently have plenty guys on the blue line that are available.

isles would probably like to add a quality top 4.

if they're out of the playoff race by tthe trade deadline,I'd guess any of their defensemen (except for the rookie Campoli), would be available.

Wings need a top four to eat minutes that Kronwall and Fischer were supposed to play. Lidstrom, Schneider, and Chelios are playing too much. They're playing well, but I'd like for them to be fresh once the playoffs roll around.

Preferably a guy in the Witt mold of steady physical play. He's been reported to be on the move.

From the Blues

I could see Weinrich, Salvador and, in the right deal, Brewer getting dealt. Other than that, our other defensemen are either too important to our future (Jackman, Backman, Wideman), have more value to the team than would be gotten in return (Walker),or wouldn't be of enough interest to anyone for a deal to be worth it.

Ruslan Salei and Keith Carney may be available at the deadline.

Pitkanen should be back in a week or two. Depending on how long Desjardins takes to get back and what condition he is in going into the playoffs, the Flyers could use a #4-5 type defenseman. A steady puck-moving type would be nice, but another banger could be useful on the 3rd pairing. The main job would be to keep Chris Therien off the ice.

True that...Ovechkin made his case why this should happen after his tap dance around Therien.

In the coming months I can see the Blackhawks moving Spacek, Cullimore, and/or Simpson. Vandermeer would be unlikely to be moved but if we got a talented young forward he could probably be had.

Canucks will likely be looking for a quality 5th d-man around deadline time.

There's 29 other GM's out there that are hoping the Leafs fall out of the playoff race, and a certain defenseman becomes available for a trade.

The Pens need defenders, but Dick Tarnstrom & Ric Jackman are both widely available.

Actually some of the defensemen from the Blues will more than likely be dealt before the trade deadline. The need for quality serviceable defense are a need in the NHL. Weinrich, Salvador, Walker, and probably Brewer should get the following:

Weinrich gets a 4th/5th draft pick
Even thou that he really only a #4/#5 defenseman(depending on the team which takes him), but his greatest selling point is going to be his NHL experience. And even thou most people don't agree he is steady for a #4/#5 defenseman.

Salvador gets a 3rd draft pick
Probably the most desired defenseman that the Blues have (due to his cheap price tag, and being a steady defenseman).

Walker get thrown in with something else to get a pick or prospect, more than likely thrown in with Sillenger/Drake.

And Brewer should get a good offensive prospect that is NHL ready or a rather high draft pick in the #1/#2 range.

Other than those 4 defenseman, I can't see the Blues trading away before the trade dealine.
