Dion started out throwing more, but had the face shield on, which Bell was looking to remove. Bell would eventually remove the shield from Dion, and throw a few of his own. Nothing big or significant landed for either. I really can't give this fight to either guy, it was pretty uneventful.

Who the **** cares? Theres been tons of fights this year, and tons of fights with rookies in it. HF Boards is slowly becoming the official Dion Phaneuf fan club. Everytime he does something theres a post about it. Why hasn't no one made a post about how Ruutu absolutely murdered Nilson? The Phaneuf love-in is starting to get really bad.

Phaneuf was throwing a ton of punches until Bell removed his visor, then Dion started playing defense and Bell started landing punches. Bell had a slight cut on his cheek, but it was caused when Phaneuf had his visor on so it doesn't really count.

Kinda funny, TSN between periods im catching on CI.

They showed the fight, well sorta.

They showed The start, with Dion throwing some small punches, nothing earth shattering. Bell didnt even try throwing a punch until he got in close and ripped the helmet off.

right as the helmet came off, TSN stopped showing the clip

lol.

I thought Phaneuf usually removes his shield?

Too much time around Jarome maybe?

IMO Phaneuf threw a punch at Bell when Bell was still in "jostle and shove" mode. I don't think Bell knew they were actually going to go. That 1st punch gave Dion a huge advantage, but Bell came back and got a shot or 2 in. Decision to Phaneuf but with the caveat that the biggest punch of the fight came when the other guy wasn't ready.

Oh and Phaneuf needs to take the visor off if he's gonna fight

Why don't players just take their visors off? This isn't a diss on Phaneuf as it is on anyone who fights with a visor. I am all for wearing them for safety, but take them off before a fight, it can lead to some nasty hand injuries.

If the fight went down the way you described it then Phaneuf is lucky he didn't get a misconduct for instigating with a visor on.

His captain leads by example.

didn't see the fight, but am curious. I thought if you fight with a visor on, you are supposed to get an extra penalty.

You have to pick up the Instigator as well to get the extra penalty for wearing the shield.

if you instigate the fight you do. But from the sounds of it Bell dropped em first. Thus no penalty.

The only other fight I can recall Dion Phaneuf had was vs Bill Guerin, and I believe Phaneuf took off his visor. I didn't watch the game today, so I don't know. I do remember Guerin said at the end of the fight "good job kid" to Phaneuf, but that was about it, so I'd assume Phaneuf did remove his visor.

I don't think its that big of a deal if a player removes his visor, but I would perfer them to remove it. I mean, why not remove your helmet either way?

The visor is a big deal because it can lead to some bad hand cuts and injuries. It also basically protects the fighters face, as not many guys wanna punch full on into a sharp piece like a visor.

It's one of those gray areas. Its ok to break your hand punching a guy's head, but its not ok to cut your hand on a visor? Makes no sense to me.

I'm almost thinking the rule that should be put in is to have players take off their helmet (visor or no visor) but there is nothing I hate more then seeing a guy land on his head losing a fight. Scary stuff.

So... like I said, gray area. I don't think there's any strong or right answere... I have my opinion on it, but even that I doubt.

Just to note, Bell ran Kiprusoff which is why Phanuef fought him.

This was indeed Phaneuf's 2nd fight (1st being Guerin), so I'm not sure the first thing Phaneuf thought after Bell ran Kiprusoff was "hmm, maybe I should take my visor first."

Just a possibility, I'm not claiming to know the why's and how's of Phaneuf's fight.

Less than a week ago Mike Richards was tangled up with Exelby and had the presence of mind to reach up, mid fight, and remove the shield.
