NJ - Nashville Proposal

If it's true that Scott Gomez is really as disillusioned as the Post is making him out to be:

How about Kevin Klein & Martin Erat

for

Scott Gomez

If NJ is really "disillusioned" with Gomez(posters here at HF seem split about the matter,) I think it's a pretty nice deal for both sides. Gomez has suffered with Elias gone, Nashville has suffered with Legwand gone. Erat, while streaky, has enjoyed a pretty solid season, and if he would just shoot more rather than doing the stickhandling-in-the-phonebooth routine, he'd probably have a few more goals as well. Klein is our most NHL-ready prospect, and Milwaukee's top D-man. He could likely play in NJ THIS year, and if not, definitely next...a poor man's Dan Hamhuis, but still a pretty good prospect...however expendable in Nashville with Shea Weber, Teemu Laakso and Ryan Parent waiting in the wings.

I think Lou could be very interested, for several reasons.

* Gomez is a UFA after this year
* Gomez is playing like ***** (although he did better last week! congrats gomer!)
* Erat has good potential and should stay a few years
* Erat knows Elias and they like each other very well -> very good thing !
* Klein would be perfect to build the defense, very thin after Martin/Hale

With Elias as a first line LW and Erat as a second line LW, the situation would look good. Klein would be welcomed with open arms, that's for sure. The center position would be quite weak with Kozlov and Parise, though, but you can't have it all.

Lou would definitivly be interested, I guess.

Gomez is a UFA after NEXT year. Not after this year.

I was going to pull the offer, thinking Gomez was UFA this year. I think a year and a half of Gomez's services makes the deal dead even.

If what nomorekids says is correct about Erat, an Erat-Kozlov-Mogilny line would be interesting to watch. 20 scoring chances per game, 0 shots.

Well, despite his penchant for holding the puck for inordinate amount of time...Erat does do something valuable in doing so. He's so slippery\good at holding on to the puck that he has a tendency to draw defenders to him...which in our case sometimes opens up another sniper\pinching defenseman to get a clear scoring chance, if Erat can get the puck over. That could benefit a sniper like Mogilny.

Let me just say that trade value aside, Klein is ready to play in the NHL now. Good wheels, decent in both ends (not exceptional mind you, but very good), and he can absolutely nail people...

Fairly even trade value addressing needs for both team, while not breaking the bank of either.

I think it works for both sides.
