GDT - Columbus at Nashville 10-18

Don't know how busy this will be today given the Buckeyes, but figured I'd start the thread for those who are around.
Any one read the Dispatch today? Should be an interesting group of forwards.

Sanderson-Fritsche-Vyborny
Nash-Marchant-Nederost
McDonnell-Pirjeta-Ling
Shelley-Hartigan-Jean-Luc

Freddie B. starting

I'm going to say Columbus loses a close one (2-1) with Vyborny, Pirjeta, Hartigan, Gord Murphy and Gerard Gallant all getting injured.
Jackets trade beer and pucks for Maltais and Kallio and there is much rejoicing.

It looks worse then some of our exibition lineups.

I hear Shane Benderas coming up when Brathwaite gets injured today.

He'd have to ride his bike up from the UHL to get there. The way he's playing so far this season, we certainly wouldn't spring for the ticket.

Fritsche on the first line is going to be interesting. I wish I could see the game to see how he responds.

I question the call-up of Hartigan though, the guy sucks!!! Actually, to be honest, if we're bringing him up, I'd like to showcase him on the first line. Let's see what he's got.

I dont know why Hartigan was called up. The Best I could come up with was that if Fritiche falters, Hartigan will be able to play on the 1st Line.

Why not try Nedorost back at centre?

*looks over his shoulder for Ned63*

This was what I got out of the call up too.

I think he is there to provide a C to play on the 1st line if Fritsche doesnt seem to be able to handle it.

Best of luck to you guys. Here's hoping there's no injuries. I think the Preds outplay the BJ's but Brathwaite steals the show and helps Columbus to a 2-2 tie.

I agree on the part about our teams hopefully avoiding serious injuries tonight. You guys deserve to have a healthy team after what you went through last season; it appears we are on pace to match you re: injuries this year.

I have a bad feeling about this game from a Jackets perspective; the offensive chemistry, except for Nash and Marchant, will not be there.
Preds grind out a 3-1 win.

I think this is a potential "statement game" for both our clubs.

The Jackets had high hopes (justifiably imo) for this season, and already have seen injuries take their toll. That, along with the monkey on the back of winning at home but not on the road make this a game the Jackets can use to say "See? NOTHING is getting in our way. We're going to win on the road, DESPITE injuries, and continue our fast start".

On the other hand, Nashville has said "No Excuses" is the theme this year. We, as well, would like to see a fast start, and have a history of playing poorly coming off of big wins (Thurs. nite V. StL). We also have a history of overlooking teams supposedly "below us", and (again, wrongly imo) the Jackets are thought to be "below us".

Seems to me somebody's gonna leave the rink tonight muttering "Same ole' ____________s", and the other team's gonna make it clear they AREN'T the "same ole _________s"

/bc

I'm obviously out of the loop here, cause I just heard about Knutsen's injury, and am frankly ready to do some serious drinking. I mean, how many are we gonna friggin' loose???? This is really getting ridiculous.

4-1 win by the Preds. Freddy lets in a few softies in the first due to rust and jitters, and the CBJs makeshift lines cough up the puck numerous times in the neutral zone.

If they pull out a point out of this game, I'll be highly impressed.

Don't be so quick to sandbag. The Preds are ripe for the picking. The other teams are getting chances; Vokoun has just shut them down. If he has a semi-off night, we are going to give up a good amount of goals. Plus, we are going to have to be clicking on PP and PK to win. We have something like 2 ES goals in 3 games. Our first two goals of the year (in the 2nd period of the first game) were even strength goals. Since then, we have scored 6 more times. None were even strength (4 PP, 1 SH, 1 EN). In other words, we have been held scoreless on ES for 8 of the 9 periods of hockey we've played. We haven't scored an ES goal in 148 minutes and 10 seconds. Our PP has looked great (4 for 18), and our PK has kept us in games (2 for 15). We are taking stupid penalties at the wrong time. We gave St. Louis 7 power plays including 6 in the last two periods. They only scored on one. If they find a way to pot another, then it's bad news for Nashville. We are very vulnerable, and unless we find a way to score ES, we are very, very beatable.

We've seen our forward lines. Out of the 12 skaters for tonight 6 were full time NHLers last season (5 if you take out Shelley who only plays 4 minutes a game). Four players played in the AHL for most of the season last year. We have a converted defenseman playing forward. And we have an 18 year old centering the first line. Throwing these guys on the ice with hardly any practice is going to cause alot of turnovers and alot of rubber going toward Freddie.

Not to mention it's a road game. Had this game been in Columbus, I'll be inclined to think more positive. Besides, I am the "pessimistic jackets fan" for a reason It's called being a realist.

Actually Smokey, our last goal against St. Louis was at even strength, even if it was an empty netter.

PRED-iction

Nashville wins, 3-2 in OT.

Nash and Kelsla, both powerplay goals. Legwand nets 2, Hartnall 1. We get outhit and outhustled, but Shelley picks up 15 mins worth of penalties to keep us in a physical frame of mind.

We fly out tonight happy with our point.

I'm happy with a point, even though we got the loss. With our depleted lineup, a point is almost as good as a win.

Any word on how Fritsche handled first line duty?
