Shields to Chicago for conditioning

I'm going to guess Tarkki to Gwinnett as a result.

Quote:
Thrashers Goaltender Steve Shields Activated from Injured Reserve and Assigned to Chicago (AHL) for Conditioning

ATLANTA (Jan. 4, 2006) -- The Atlanta Thrashers have activated goaltender Steve Shields from injured reserve and assigned him to Chicago of the AHL for conditioning, according to Executive Vice President and General Manager Don Waddell. The team's active roster now stands at 22, with an additional two players on Injured Reserve.

Shields, 33, who suffered a knee injury on Nov. 24 against the New York Rangers, was placed on injured reserve on Dec. 8, retroactive to the date of the injury, and has missed the team's last 14 games. He has appeared in five games with the Thrashers this season, posting a 1-2-1 record and a 4.29 goals-against average, while earning d a 1-1-0 record, 1.47 GAA and .929 save percentage in two games with Chicago (AHL).

Signed by Atlanta as a free agent on Oct. 27, 2005, he has recorded an 80-104-39 record and a 2.67 GAA in 246 NHL appearances with the Thrashers, Florida, Boston, Anaheim, San Jose and Buffalo.

You think Tarkki not Berkhoel? Probably a coin toss between them at this point... though I did see since Berkie was called back up they dressed him and Tarkki and let Hurme sit in the stands.

Even though often it is a better position to be the No. 1 in the ECHL than a No. 2 in the AHL, Anderson clearly has more confidence in Berkhoel right now, and they need wins badly. So yeah, I do.

So you're thinking Shields-1/Berkhoel-2 and Hurme-scratch?

Yep. Suing your current employer is not usually a good move, IMO.

I missed something. Did Hurme sue Chicago?

Toomie and Jani were doing just fine. I was ticked when I found out Berkhoel was back... let alone then getting Shields back. However, since Jani is apparently not too happy with the parent club... it obviously helps to have Shields and Berkhoel here. Although I am still no fan of Berkhoel and this game tonight yet again verifies my un-fan-ness of him. Shields didn't do so hot last night, and is a scratch tonight, but Billy and Judd said he'll play tomorrow.

Ah well, this is the time that we've been waiting for the past couple months: what will we do with 7ish goalies once they're all healthy??

He's practicing and probably less than two weeks away from being ready.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see somebody moved, the Islanders in particular are in a bad way right now, DiPietro and Snow are down, they called up their AHL Bridgeport guy to start (I won't even try to spell his name and too lazy to look it up right now) and Cloutier from ECHL Pensacola to backup, and Bridgeport signed two guys to PTOs, so they're obviously hurting at the moment and may give us something for Shields if we can prove he's healthy. That's what I'd do at least, unless someone would be kind enough to take Hurme's salary off our hands. Those two are probably the best combination of tradeable and disposable right now, IMHO.

Thank you so much! Looks like nothing but I've asked this question like 300 times and never got the simple and clear answer (when I got anything).

The Thrashers claim his illness and injuries were not hockey-related, while Hurme claims that they were and should be paid for the 2004-2005 lockout season. So he filed a lawsuit trying to get paid. The Thrashers said that if his injuries were hockey-related, then the trade for him would have been voided (or something to that extent..).
