not that it'll change anything in the long run but I have a feeling Ribeiro will have a good game against the Senators. [ I have been around paint thinner today ].

Latest Ribs Rumor - Capitals are Involved

Hi Guys,

Thought I would post this as there is no link in the Habs board yet for this..

http://spectorshockey.tripod.com/spe...e_rumours.html

"My thanks to "William" for the following: "From the mouth of the Agent of Montréal forward Mike Ribeiro, the Washington Capitals are really interested by his services. They are looking for a good passer for Ovechkin. Ribeiro have been benched for 2 consecutives games.

He was at the TV show in Montréal yesterday called "Au-dessus de la mêlée ", he also said it on air on CKAC radio."

Begin Speculating now.. a posible deal for Witt maybe?

Ribs + Prospect/Pick
for
Witt

Mike

That's the last place I'd want to send him. If he goes to the Caps, this board will be flooded with threads about Ribeiro's progress as he piggybacks on Ovechkin's one-man-show.

Good.

I would«take Witt over Ribs anyday. I also really think that Ribs does need a change in scenery and we need better defence.

Might be for Witt, but I think you overvalue him in your trade proposal. I'm not a big fan of Ribeiro, but he's still a player with much more potential than Witt.

IMO, it would be more like

Ribs
for
Witt + Prospect/Pick (or at worst straight-up)

Not a big fan of Witt though, but the Habs D needs all the help they can get.

If everyone thinks Ribs is too slow for the "new NHL", wait until you watch Witt game in game out. At least Ribs is cheap and can put up 60-65 points. I'd pass on that deal, and there's certainly no way we'd have to add extra to get Witt.

I'm really not a fan of Witt either. Nor of Ribeiro. While the Hab's D needs a lot of help, this is probably one of these instances where the best trade is no trade. Ribeiro should be able to land the Habs a player better than Witt.

In the end Ribeiro would probably be a grater help to the habs for the remainder of the year than Witt would be, and that's saying a lot. The trade would only make sense if another good prospect comes along with Witt.

And if everyone thinks Komisarek doesn't get enough ice time, I don't see how that situation improves by trading Ribeiro for Witt. If we get a defenseman in a trade that doesn't go right to Hamilton, we have to give one back.

This trade rumour, like so many, is the result of the Habs' poor performance. We're going to hear dozens for the next little while until we turn things around or things start happening for real.

Until then, I'll pass on idle speculation.

I agree with a lot of you,

Ribs would be the best player of this trade, which means we would get screwed ince were looking for quality and not quantity in Ribs case. We're mostly looking for a quality second line center. I think a package that includes Ribeiro/Zednik and prospects (even though I don't want to see any of our prospects traded) is more probable.

We'll see...

Look at the career points. Ribeiro has more. Washington would have to throw in a pick.

If he took that from what Perno said on CKAC 2 days ago then he's the dumbest person I've ever saw....

Bob Perno just said that this is normal for Ribeiro not to perform well since he has no good wingers... He said he would surely perform better if he plays with the Capitals with Ovechkin.

So he didn't even mention about speculations or rumors that he's going to be traded to the Capitals.

I was going to post this exact suggestion. If we trade Ribs to Washington, we need to get one of Morrisonn or Eminger (the latter would force us to throw more stuff into the deal).

I don't think that this rumor is very credible.

If you remember back in november , there was a short interview with Gainey on RDS where they talked about Witt and he said that the Habs scouts were interested in him at some point but that after seeing him play for while they weren't anymore.

Things could have changed since then but i doubt it.That's why i think that this rumor is bogus.

just to clarify, the rumor was not ribs for witt, it was ribs' agent saying washington would be a good fit.

i added the witt part because i thought it would be something that would be plausible!

I said since a long time that for me the mean problem isn't Ribeiro but the fact that our key leader is always getting injuries.Or you deal him , or you put him in a lesser important role ( second centerand cut his salary )

Iam really tire about all the bad threads or posts about Ribeiro , i read here everydays , so finally , yes , why not trade him ?

The real question now is ;

So , it's a thing to say bye bye to him , but who is going to takes his place , do better than him , in the same kind of salary range ?
To win trades players have to be acquired when they are available for a song eg comrie, drury, savard. The Habs missed on those trades big time.
