**OFFICIAL** GDT 1/5 - Kings vs. Coyotes

Game Time: 7:30 PM PST | 10:30 PM EST
Location: Staples Center | Los Angeles, CA
TV Broadcast: Fox Sports Net
Radio Broadcast: 710 AM
Online broadcast: NHL Radio

  • Mathieu Garon was named the defensive player of the month (December).
  • Kings agreed to terms on a one-year contract with free-agent Connor James and have recalled him from the Manchester Monarchs of the American Hockey League.
  • Mattias Norstrom scored the game-winning goal Monday night against the Stars in overtime. It also happened to be his 34th birthday.

Quotable:

"A team never benefits from panic. We need urgency, not panic. When we lost those four games, should we have addressed every problem, every play? No. I think sometimes you just have to play. Some nights you hit the post, some nights the puck goes in." - Mattias Norstrom

Injury Update:
  • The Kings placed center Eric Belanger on the injured reserve list (retroactive to Dec. 30) because of a groin injury.
  • Dustin Brown is "day-to-day" after suffering an "upper-body injury" during the Kings/Stars game on Monday.
  • Jeremy Roenick (broken finger) is targeting a January 21st return.

Previous Meeting(s) this year: Tied (2-2-0)

Wow Boucher's head is almost bigger than Garon's whole body. I don't see how we can win this one.

No word on that yet. If it is a shoulder, it may be a little longer...

Cool, if we win tonight and the Red Wings lose we will lead Western. Not a big chance that Blues will beat Detroit, but still.

Play hard tonight guys! Go Kings Go!

They just have to time their shots in between bobbles.

The good thing is that if he falls over, he won't be able to get up

You're joking...but the Kings had to go the entire 03/04 season knowing that their goalie was bound by that mandate.

You know, I coach football, and I have these types of kids, I always have one everyyear it seems, that have to jump/dive/flop on the floor for everything. Any pass near them they must jump for, if the running back is out of their reach, they have to dive for him, and 99.9% of the time, it's completely un-necesary. I dont know if they think it's cool or what, but I think that Cechmanek had the same characteristic, and I don't know if he ever grew out of it, or if it made him look cooler as the fat kid who was forced to play goaltender or what.

Hmm... Boucher? I'm surprised we're not getting CuJo. Is CuJo having GAA issues?

No pre-game rap tonight. I kinda over did it. Gotta only do it in the big games or when its called for.

Plus it would be kinda hard to do one 8 times on the same team (for four teams).

Well I guess the boards were down when the game started. Right now it is 2-0 Kings.

1st Goal

Conroy assists to Norstrom and Dempsey

2nd Goal on PP

I was a little terrified when I saw the defense pairings (Norstrom-Dempsey, Gleason-Grebeshkov, Vis-Corvo) but they've played pretty good thus far.

But - really - we need to send that bum Corvo to Manchester. God, what a stinker.

Conroy scored an excellent far-post wrister that was screened. Norstrom had a great pass to him.

Corvo scored on a very nice slapshot from the blueline. It appeared to me to deflect off the Yote closest to him. Conroy had some good moves for the primary assist.

Luc scored on a nice slapshot, set up by Cammalleri. I had a feeling he'd score in the next few games (and said so the other day ).
