He's currently second in scoring for BC...

A great concern has to be that his points are not coming at even strength. His play has been decidedly unimpressive from what I've been able to glean. Unimpressive in that he hasn't made huge strides over his sophomore year.

I don't really think there's anything to be worried about. He IS a project, and yet he's still being used in key situations. I still think he has the upside of Keith Primeau; monster size with clutch scoring ability, but won't ever be the point leader.

Yeah, I think at best Keith, at worst, Wayne.

You guys are nuts. This guy has the highest upside of any Kings prospect -- higher than Primeau. May not get all the way there, but he is developing quite nicely, thank you. Much better use of his size this year. Points are starting to come.

Have you seen him play or are you just talking based on statistics?

It's not coming on the power play much this year either. BC's power play is near the bottom this year and Boyle's down year has a lot to do with it.

Yep. Not every single BC game but handful of games.

He is using his size better than say his freshman year, but it is about the same as last year (maybe a little bit better). He still loafs a bit out there but I'm sure this is one of the things he's working on. He is still using his size in front of the net on the pwoerplay, but he needs to keep working on that hand-eye coordination because he is not banging in rebounds like he was doing masterfully towards the end of last season. He's missed a lot of wide open nets on rebound bang-ins by either simply missing the puck altogether or shanking it.

In other words, is he progressing? Sure, but I think only marginally over last season. Does he still have a ways to go? Definitely. Will he develop? I see no reason why not.

Still a project.

He's a point per game right now. Better than last year. He'll be fine, don't worry just to worry about something.

You still want the Kings to dress a goon, and WE'RE nuts?

Of course Boyle has the highest upside of any Kings prospect... he's the tallest and has shown the least talent to date...

Least talent to date? You must not have followed his development at the end of last season and so far this season. The guy has been a point per game player. At the end of last season people were complaining that he got most of his point on the PP and now some people are complaining he's getting most of his points 5-5? The guy is developing just fine, IMO.

I've seen highlights but mostly basing my opinion on statistics and what I've read. It was wrong of me to say he has Keith Primeau upside, because at this point, he DOES have much higher upside than Primeau. BUT, his likelihood of being more of a player than Primeau is what I was trying to say.

I still think Kopitar will be a better center, long term. And yes, I saw Kopitar play in the World Championships last year, when he was competing against men far more skilled than anyone Boyle has faced. And I am very much a Boyle fan

My skating makes Ryan Flinn look like Dan Jansen.

Skating? Who said anything about skating?

Could've sworn the search didn't bring this up, but...

saw the guy tonight at the Bruins game with some other BC players. All I have to say is wow at how big he is. I hope he pans out, I love it when Mass. talent makes it to the NHL.

Have you been able to see any of his games? Any observations are appreciated

Well, I've followed his career pretty closely, ever since he was making waves at St. Sebastians Prep School in 2002 (had something like 7 Division I players).

I've caught 2 BC games thus far, and will see him again 1 week from Saturday. I've also seen him play 7 or 8 times since he's been at BC. What I've noticed;

He's improved a lot since his freshman season. He was obviously very raw when he was drafted NHL-wise, and when he went to BC, I don't think he was ready to play even at that level. He was probably 6'6, 215-220 lbs his freshman year, and now he looks to be at least 6'7 and 245+. Last year, he scored 27 points in 40 games for a very talented Eagles team, and has taken on a larger role this season, scoring 16 points in 16 games. He's steadily improved his point output in his time at the heights.

Talent-wise, there's A LOT to work with;

Obviously, his size. I can't stress enough how ENORMOUS this guy really is. He's also playing bigger, too. As a freshman, and at times as a sophomore, he could have been classified as "soft" (generally speaking, it's hard to call someone that big "soft"). But this season, his game has taken on a much more "powerful" label. I don't think he'll ever be confused with Todd Bertuzzi, but for those who have compared him to a Keith Primeau-type player, I think they'd be pretty close.

He's a very good skater, contray to what I've read. Long, smooth strides.

Good set of hands, very long reach, knows how to protect the puck.

His play-making ability leaves a bit to be desired at this point. He can put the puck in the net, though.

He has a booming shot. I remember watching BC play Maine last year at BC, and Boyle came over the blue-line and absolutely ripped a slapshot right over Jimmy Howard's shoulder off the cross-bar and out of play. I don't think Howard moved.

All-in-all, he's improved as a player over the last 2+ seasons, and there's no reason to think he won't continue. I really see him playing in the NHL, probably as a 3rd-line center, maybe even 2nd. He's good.
