Leading contenders for the league's annual awards

Frank J. Selke Trophy (top defensive forward): Craig Conroy, Los Angeles Kings. Conroy is perhaps the best two-way center in the game today. While averaging better than a point per game for the resurgent Kings, Conroy is also the team's primary stopper. He is a phenomenal plus-20 and also serves as one of the team's core penalty killers.

I had to chuckle when Fox mentioned on the tv a couple of weeks ago about how Belanger should be considered for the Selke. Conroy's a much better candidate.

Personally I'd like to see someone on the Kings win the Conn Smythe for the first time.

Conroy's certainly deserving of the Selke consideration at this point in time.

Interesting fact: Conroy has more points at even-strength than anyone else on the team and one of the highest ratios at 2/3rds of his total points. There's no reason to look elsewhere to discover why even-strength is the Kings' greatest strength this season.

I wish I could find a site that tracks even strength stats across the league, because EVERY time I've heard an even strength stat mentioned about the Kings this season - it's been impressive.

5 on 5 - the Kings can match up with ANY team in the league (and in most cases dominate).

I remember my buddies telling me Conroy was a mediocre 2rd line center, at best, when LA signed him.

And a Flames fan told me LA had overpaid for him...

WHO'S LAUGHING NOW!!????

The Conn Smythe is for MVP of the playoffs. If its still the regular season how can you say that conroy is deserving. Come on, use your head.

Ummm... I didn't think I needed to clarify, but I've edited my original post. Have another look.

Here are some interesting numbers.....in my opinion.

Craig Conroy......GP:42...Goals:16...Assists:29...Points :49...+21...Salary: $2,394,000

Jarome Iginla.....GP:40...Goals:16...Assists:16...Points: 32...+9....Salary: $7,000,000

NO, but where's Johnny Utah who said that Conroy was no better than Army, and that Army would put up better numbers?
