And they got him for nothing...

Way to go, we could of used him here in Montreal.

Kondratiev is equivalent to Emelin, so it's not nothing

I don't like Sykora in the 1st place, yes he'll probably score a few goals with his friend Jagr but it just so happens that Jagr isn't in montreal and Sykora showed he won't score with average players like Zednik and Ribeiro.

we have tons of guys like Sykora

Ribeiro, Plenkanec, Bulis, Zednik, Perezogin, Kostytsin ... list goes on an on, I'd much rather see Kostytsin and Perezogin on the ice than Sykora who's way passed his best times

I'm not quite sure that Sykora is exactly what we needed.
He's talented for sure, but this team has many more needs that have to be addressed before we start bolstering positions with similar players. Zednik, Kovalev, Ryder are all snipers with production similar to Sykora's. To get Sykora is also a cap hit we could ill-afford at the moment.

Also, Kondtratiev and a fourth isn't really nothing.

Read carefully, it's actually Kondratiev for Sykora and a 4th.

Sykora + 4th for Kondratiev, bad trade for the Ducks.

My bad. Cap move for sure, but Kondratiev still isn't nothing. The trade boils down to

Sykora + 4th + Cap Hit for Kondratiev.

no big deal, there's been salary dumps forever. Sykora is done, I'm actually surprised they got a defenseman who has a chance to do something in the NHL.

Simply because every available player has to somehow make it to MTL and if they don't Gainey should be shot.

I know it might sound strange, but could Theo have a negative trade value as of now?

I wouldnt say that.

What he has done in the past should not be ignored.

But what he's doing now certainly lowers his value!!

Goaltending is a bit different than a streaky winger. Teams don't win playoff series on the back of a solid right winger. Sykora will help out the Rags but by no means solidify a playoff run. Theo on the other hand has the words "comeback and rebound" written all over him for certain GMs. Some will trade for Theo on the assumption that a change of scenary will retunr him to his MVP calibre shape.

Shows you how low the market has become for overpaid, under-achieveing 30-ish players...

As a side note, our friend Eklund has missed the boat with this one, here' what he had to say this morning:

Apparently, Petr Sykora was scratched last night by GM Burke and not
coach Carlyle. That leads to tons of speculation of where he is
headed. Boston, Buffalo, New Jersey and Montreal are all in the
picture.

Should be nice to see.
"Sykora would certainly have helped Montreal".
"Gainey is sleeping at the switch".

and then next week.
"Montreal is a team that lacks size and grit on the first two lines".
"Montreal has too many similar players".

Bah!
