Great player with a ton of offensive upside and probably one of the best skaters left of the D available. I liked Fabbro a lot for his elite decision making but you have to live the way Charlie pushes the pace, hammers the puck and hits. He's everything Sweeney talked about last summer.

Welcome aboard Charlie!!!

That's who I thought he compared stylistically to as well. Let's just hope he ends up as good.

The gap in quality between Fabbro and McAvoy is nearly impossible to determine. They are different players. Fabbro could be Keith or he could be Ference. McAvoy could be Phil Housely or he could be in the AHL.

What I can tell you is the kid s a pretty electric skater. He's not afraid to play to his strengths. Maybe his shot isn't the best, but he has wheels, vision and is an excellent passer all over the ice. Pair him with a shutdown guy like Carlo and voila...enjoy.

Even if they weren't, is it worth it to get that upset over 1-2 slots. Would have been happy with any of the 3. Now it just means I'll be rooting for McAvoy over the other two.

He was 14 .

Every 14 year old boy loves their home team and hates the others. Especially Boston -NY

Go back further I bet you find he wet his bed too at some time.

He's in a great program with Quinn who is raising him like veal to be an NHL player

I loathe the Yankees, but if they wanted to start paying me 6 digits minimum to play a sport I love. Guess what, I'm now a fan of the evil empire

I wasn't happy last year, I'm happy this year.

Bruins didn't reach out of left field, McAvoy is one of the best D in the draft, they are all too close for a consensus and fans crying over Chychrun are still going with his last year hype. This year, Chychrun and McAvoy where pretty much interchangeable. You totally might have a prefference for Chychrun, but it's just that, a prefferance. This as nothing to do like last year when there was a huge gap between the players we pass and those we picked. Even, McAvoy was probably better at the U20 than Chychrun was at the U18 imho.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney made right move

http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/br...MzO/story.html

McAvoy undoubtedly will go in Round 1, perhaps with only one other member of Hockey East, Connecticut’s Tage Thompson, a 6-5 center whose 14-18—32 ranked him second in UConn scoring. Question is, if McAvoy were to tumble to No. 14, would the Bruins like someone else more? There is virtually no chance he remains in play at No. 29.

“Charlie’s a big, strong, powerful kid,’’ said Quinn. “I can’t tell you how many times during the course of the season that he’d go into a corner against a guy who was 23 years old and he won a battle, or got in a physical confrontation with a guy who is six or seven years older — and he won the battle. That is hard to do.

“He really takes pride in trying to be a well-rounded defenseman.’’

Bernie Corbett, the Terriers’ decades-long play-by-play announcer, likened McAvoy’s overall game to that of Kevin Shattenkirk, the onetime Terrier standout who was selected 14th overall by Colorado in 2007 (and was quickly dealt to St. Louis his rookie year).

“Similar skill set,’’ noted Corbett. “But Charlie’s got more of a natural physicality — that aspect comes really easily to him. For overall defense, I think McAvoy’s ahead of the curve, compared to Shatternkirk, at this point.’’

really stoked about this pick. Kid seems like an electric player who can be an awesome NHL D if he develops his game.

Exactly.

My gap was personal and Fabbro has been a player I have watched and coached against for years.

Great kid. McAvoy is supposed to be great as well.

Welcome Charlie!

I'm almost certain that (5/21/13) was right after the Bruins beat the Rangers. He's from NY.

I hate how this is a thing... because people will take it seriously.

Its speaks more of them than A 14 year old boy.

People wonder why Vesey may not want to put up with our ******** here.

And yes this kid and his family will google the draft tonight and his name will show up here more than any other site.

Welcome kid!

Sweeney at least didn't reach to the moon. But most here wanted fabbro over mcavoy, myself included. It's a tough call and it's splitting hairs between the 2, but we'll see who the smart guys were someday. Don, or the collective here. I'd hope the GM has the hf message board site beat, but again it's splitting hairs.

Every bu game I watched mcavoy put himself out of position to rock someone in the neutral zone and take a roughing penalty. An exciting player no doubt, and I'm excited to watch him more. We'll be able to compare him quite easily to fabbro night in and night out at bu which is cool as well. If he's like subban that's pretty awesome. The way he hits though reminded me of dumba. Dangerous, high, leaves his feet, stepping up in the neutral zone. All very "dumba in his draft year" like.

I hear ya Wally, I heard/read plenty from those both far closer to the game and more connected to it than I`ll ever be who said they thought the kid had been passed by more than a few D-men, our newest B being one of em

Im cautious. im 50/50 on it right now. I waited til the adrenaline has parted but I was absolutely sure Boston would take Chychrun, I mean, the guy fell into their laps. There has to be a reason why all the other teams passed on him too. I don't know.
