If you are drafted out of the CHL you can't play full time in the AHL until your 20 year old season, but once your team is done for the year you can come up and play some games. Juulsen likely will, Serg is in the Mem cup so he isn't eligible.

You can play in the AHL after your team (CH) is eliminated.

Sergachev's season is not over - Mem cup host. Juulsen can sign just like Mete and it is not clear why he has not. It could be because there is not really any more spots on the caps with Mete being added. Or Juulsen is nursing an injury.

Edit: from another thread:
"Something gleaned yesterday: Noah Juulsen headed to Montreal, but no word on if he'll join the IceCaps or just observe Habs playoff series."

oh alright so i was kinda right exept you can play the AHL at 20 full time and play when your season is over. so he'll need to come back with london or NHL ( very unlikely) next season! Mete is my favorite habs prospect along with Reway!

Juulsen doesn't need to sign an ATO because his ELC is in effect this year. And there is no risk in burning a year on his ELC because AHL games don't count so even if he plays with the Ice Caps, his ELC will still slide.

But as the guy who tweeted the news that Juulsen is in Montreal, I'm thinking he's there as a Black Ace seeing as no one in St. John's is available now. But maybe Mete's ATO signing could mean one guy will join the Habs and leave a spot for Mete.

That's possible but not likely: Emelin is getting back in and with Davidson and Nesterov there, there is no need for another d like Lernout to sit while he can gain PO experience with the caps.
Thanks for the clarification on Juulsen's contract status.

Staying on as a Black Ace in Montreal doesn't necessarily mean he will play. Like you say, when Emelin is back, Davidson and Nesterov are the guys who will play in case of a replacement. But every team has Black Aces that aren't there to really play games but mostly to practice and learn from the pros.

Danault was a Black Ace in Chicago's last Stanley Cup win in 2015. He never played a game and he was never going to. But he was there along for the ride learning by watching the likes of Toews, Kane, Hossa and co.

So... while I'm excited because of the Drouin trade, it means my expectations for this guy just went way up. He's now our top PMD prospect. Juulsen is good but I think Mete's ceiling is more interesting.

Victor Mete's Depth Chart Status

Hey everyone,

Just a question after today's trade. I think it was a great move to snag Drouin.

I've been wondering if Sergachev getting dealt has anything to do with Victor Mete's success this past season?

Where do you think he ranks in the depth chart for Habs' D prospects?

Good point, but still, even if Mete has a meh season, this deal still happens

Juulsen is still ahead because he is more or less a surefire prospect. But Mete's ceilling is definitely higher IMO due to his amazing skating and puck moving abilities. In terms of organizational needs, Mete might even be more important than Juulsen now that Serge is gone, but we will see how that plays out a couple years from now.

I could see Mete setting up Weber's bomb on the PP since he is a great puckmover, but his shot as of right now is average and doesnt pocess the physical tools like Sergachev to be a top pairing defenseman.. He has a good stick though.

Mete is now #2 among the Habs D prospects but it's very close between him and Juulsen for 1st. Mete has the skills that the new NHL appears to be heading towards, great skaters with high mobility that can move the puck very well. Juulsen is more of what you would expect from a WHL defensemen, he's physical and has a bomb of a shot but his skating/mobility while not bad are no where near as good as Mete's (though not many are)

Our D prospects got very weak very fast and to think it was what they kept on drafting the most.

With Juulsen, Mete, and Bourque our D prospects are far from weak, they aren't remarkable but they all have potential to make our team.

If we keep the pick we'll be picking a defenseman. I can even see us trying to move up to grab a better one to replace Sergachev.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Habs move up (depending on the amount of spots it takes) to take a guy like Juuso Valimaki. If he falls to where most mock drafts have him at between pick #13 to pick #17, I don't think the asking price will be beyond what MB would be willing to pay.

With that said, Mete and Juulsen are still good prospects to have and while they do not have the hype of a Sergachev, both could fill a particular role on the team when they are ready.

I have Mete ahead of Juulsen tbh, he was dominant last season.

I think he could end up becoming a Spurgeon type dman.

So do i... juulsen, as another poster said is very well rounded and as close as it gets to surefire nhler if he's not a 2/3 even4... he's still at least a 3rd pair D... Mete, it's up to him, honestly, i really think he has solid upside, not THE go to guy, he's more a 2-way puck rusher than ppqb or pkspecialist... all-around ok but that skating skill will make him a great asset

Suddenly, this kid becomes MUCH more important than he was before. He just HAS to make it.

Looking forward to see Mete pick the puck up behind the net, skate like the wind past our blueline, nifty pass to Drouin who skates like the wind past the opposing blueline and sets up a gliding Patches for an easy goal. Guessing that kind of play is about 2-3 years out from next season.
