Barring an injury hes my favorite to win the goal scoring race. He CAN do it without any help. Hes that good.

Mine as well, but I wouldn't count out Stu Barnes yet. He's got two more today to get up to 5 on the year. I think that Barnes vs. Smolinksi argument on the poll boards will be settled decisively in Barne's favour this season.

I'd definetely pick him for the Maurice Richard this year. Anyone think he can just plain lead the league in scoring if he gets some help at all?

I doubt he leads the league in scoring, but I think he can put up 50-40-90 quite realistically. I also think if the Thrashers make the playoffs he could get MVP consideration.

Jagr and Sakic both did it in 2000-2001 I believe. Don't remember if there was anyone else.

Yes, it has been done. You certainly went out on a limb. I'll cheer for Kovalchuk but 50 in 50, crikey. I have to say it again, crazyyyyyyyy.

Cam Neely was the last player to do it.

Did anyone do it in 92-93? I'm thinking specifically of Selanne, Mogilny, or Lemieux.

Can't be Cam Neely, i clearly remember Jagr doing it. In fact he netted a hat trick in the 50th game to reach the mark.

That would have to be 1995-1996 then, if you are right. And that would come after Neely since he did it in 1993-1994.

For reference, here are some totals that may have included 50/50, although I'm not sure:

Jagr 1995-1996 62 goals in 82 games
Lemieux 1995-1996 69 goals in 70 games
Neely 1993-1994 50 goals in 49 games
Bure 1993-1994 60 goals in 76 games
Lemieux 1992-1993 69 goals in 60 games
Selanne 1992-1993 76 goals in 84 games
Mogilny 1992-1993 76 goals in 77 games

And for that alone he should be in the hall, If Kovalchuk does it I will go out and buy a home Kovalchuk jersey.

Statistical oddities should not get you in the Hall of Fame. If Turco only played like 6 more seasons, should he get in the HOF for that 1.72 GAA?

The thing about scoring 50 goals in 50 games, is that it's recorded using the number of games played by the team instead of the player. Here are the players who did 50 goals in 50 or less of the team's games.

Maurice Richard '45
Mike Bossy '81
Wayne Gretzky '82, '84, '85
Mario Lemieux '89
Brett Hull '91, '92

I'm not sure how many other times it's been done in 50 or less games played by the player. The following three I know for sure. Cam Neely did it in '94. Lemieux also did it in '93 and '96.

Anyways, to answer Epsilon's question, depending on how you look at it Lemieux in '96 or Hull in '92 was the last one.

Any idea as to the reason why it is counted as team games? That is weird that they go by team games.....

This is a guess, but maybe because that's how Richard did it.
