One of the things that we were supposed to have addressed since the trade deadline was faceoffs and the center position. No doubt we've improved our center ice, but have we improved our faceoffs? It's only 5 games into the season, but we've seen a 3 game winning streak followed by a 2 game losing streak, so you can't say we've been hot or cold the entire start of the season.
We've won 44% of the faceoffs thus far, averaging 29.6 faceoffs won per game, 37 faceoffs lost.
Here are some stats on our faceoffs, and you'll see that Gratton is the only player regularly at the faceoff circle winning his draws. The top 4 players are our top 4 drawmen, so I have them sorted by percentage, then the next 3 drawmen have only had a few trips to the faceoff circle.
CHRIS GRATTON 51.0 100
JAN HRDINA 45.4 55
DAYMOND LANGKOW 40.9 110
KRYSTOFER KOLANOS 40.0 40
SHANE DOAN 55.6 9
BRANKO RADIVOJEVIC 50.0 2
LANDON WILSON 38.5 13
It may improve when Sillinger comes back, but I thought Langkow's Percentage was only so low as he was matching with the best from the opposition, I am pretty sure it has gone down on last season, I also thought Hrdina would be closer to breaking even in the circle?
Anyway, lets see how it goes over the next few, it is still far too early to judge
