It really says something about what Messier was that tickets for this game are no cheaper than $700 on eBay.

Hottest Rangers tickets since 1994, and comparable to Yankees World Series games, according to an article in the NYDL.

Says all that needs to be said

Heres to Mr.Messier.
A great leader and player and one of the hardest working athletes in any sport.
Capable of a highlight reel goal one shift and knocking you into the 3rd row with a bonecrushing hit the next.
Complete player is an over used sports cliche, but the Moose is one of the few who are deserving of the title.
Thanks for the memories Mark.Next stop HHOF,1st ballot guaranteed.

Thank god the Knicks aren't playing a road game, Cablevision would have bumped the Rangers and the ceremony to MSG2.

I'll cut to the chase...

http://www.newyorkrangers.com/pressb...es.asp?id=1880

"When J.D introduced me as the next captain of the New York Rangers, I felt a tremendous pride," he read. "But I never expected to be greeted with that kind of ovation. I remember saying to myself as the crowd roared 'I will die trying to bring the Stanley Cup to the fans of New York.' And with that ovation on opening night, a relationship began with you that I will never forget and I will cherish forever."

I think it says it all right there! Mess thanks for bringing the Cup in 94. You'll always be one of the best Rangers ever.

He's the BEST Ranger IMO. Thank you Mess for everything you brought to hockey and New York.

From what I've heard from the Edmonton media, the Oilers are planning to retire #11 next season. If next year is the year that the Atlantic Division travels to the Northwest (assuming that system is still around), then it'll happen when the Rangers come to Edmonton. Otherwise it'll probably be near the beginning of the season.

Congrats to Mess. A great player regardless of the jersey and someone integral in championships in both our cities.

Cheers....and good luck tonight.

EDIT:And leave it to the Islanders to try to pee on the Rangers parade by firing their coach and GM while the focus should be on Messier.

I don't really think anyone's paying attention to the Isles right now.

Oil fan here. Mess meant so much to both our teams. Truely one of the all-time greats. Mess was the spark for the Oilers and Rags cup runs. His intensity is legendary. He could stare down entire teams. I think his legend is only going to grow. I fully expect to see Mess as coach in the NHL sometime soon. And he will be excellent at that as well.

Personally I would love for him to join the coaching team in Edmonton, but I have a feeling the Rags and a few other teams might start offering him jobs in the next year or so. No one could motivate players like Mess. He shamed you into being as good as you could. If he didn't think you were pulling your weight, he stared two holes through your chest until you did better. Look how many players played their best when captained by Moose.

Also I have never heard him refered to as "The Captain" before. I love it. It is perfect.

The Great One
Mr. Hockey
The Captain

Fits perfectly. Congrats to Mess on an incredible career. I expect lots of tears from everyone at MSG tonight! Wish I could be there. Any millionares on board looking to fly and Edmonton kid out for the game? hehehehe

As an Islander fan it was brutally hard to come to terms with the Rangers Championship in '94. Knowing that Messier had a big hand in that championship made him the target of much hatred not just from me but from many who were not fans of the Rangers. That said, nobody could argue that Mark Messier was anything but a true professional and a hockey legend. I don't know if there has ever been a better leader in the history of hockey. Congrats to Mess and his amazing career.

I asked this on the Oiler's board too- anyone else find it curious that Gretz was not mentioned once in the ceremony-not even by Mess who came to both of Gretz's ceremonies in NYC and Edmonton. I can not imagine Gretz not wanting to give at least a video tribute but maybe the Ranger brass just wanted the '94 team to be the focus. Any thoughts and will Gretz's #99 be retired in MSG anytime soon you think?
