Old feelings die hard, ESPN power rankings

Despite winning the head-to-head matchups, the Nashville Predators are ranked behind Columbus in ESPN's recent power rankings. I know they Predicted big things and some went as far as to say the BJ's would make the playoffs and that Nashville would fight for Ovechkin but give it up. We are the better team as of right now. Which is what the power rankings are supposed to reflect.

BTW, check out Carolina's record. I knew they sucked but not that bad.

I have a problem with any team ranked in the top half that can't win on the road consistantly, that goes for Columbus and Nashville.

29? Have you seen Buffalo lately? They are 2 and 4 and have scored 8 goals in 6 games. They've given up 21. Their wins came against a pathetic Flames team and a Dallas team that slumped after beating the Preds.

We've played one road game, kind hard to realize any consistency.

I watched the Sabres last night, and they were horrid to say the least. They are going to need to pick up some quality defensmen, b/c they are getting owned.....The Cannucks made them look like little girls the whole game.

Absolutely the opposite, actually.

I mean, we've lost EVERY road game we've played...how much more consistent can it get?

We cannot take Atlanta lightly, they are on a mission this season.

Agreed, if we don't show up, they will beat us. We have to bring the effort we had against St. Louis or the first part of the game against Columbus. If we did that, we are in good shape.

Edit: Atlanta is quickly becoming very overrated. ESPN's power rankings touched on it but they haven't played a good hockey team yet. The two teams they have played that I would consider respectable (at best) are NYI and NYR. They tied those games. The teams they are beating aren't very good . Washington, Chicago, Columbus all are bad hockey teams. They play their first team that had a winning record last year tonight (TB). They are an average team at best that's only chance of going to the playoffs revolves around winning a terrible division. So far their opponents are a combined 10-12-4 (Nashville's are a combined 11-13-0-1). Of their 5 opponents, only two made it to the playoffs and neither made it past the 1st round. 3 of Nashville's opponents made it to the playoffs. Dallas, Anaheim, and St. Louis. All but St. Louis (who lost to Vancouver in 7) made it to the second round...

...that being said. Atlanta is the better team right now. Until Nashville heals up defensively and starts to play better on the road, this game is in Atlanta's favor.

The begining of the season can be very deceptive. All non-playoff teams are playing with fire and passion. Some teams are just getting warmed up (ie Colorado). Some teams haven't even realized the season has started (Anaheim).

Last year, Boston started off the season 19-4, but only barley squeaked in the playoffs.

2 years ago, Calgary was a leading the western conference 25 games into the season. They ended up not making the playoffs.

All in all, I wouldn't try to read too much into what teams like Atlanta, Phoenix, and even Nashville are doing at this point in the season. Let me restate that... I wouldn't try to read too much into what anyone is doing at this point in the season.

I'd agree with that.

And people wonder why the conversation drifts off the topic.
