[mod] On topic though, about time for a little celebration of our rich hockey history.

That's it. This is a hockey subforum - if you want to discuss Hull's checkered personal life, take it to the political forum. Any further posts that discuss Hull's personal life from here forward will be deleted - it's not hockey related.

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why they're going to induct the entire line at one time and not just Bobby Hull. I'm in favour of the HOF however.

This is cool. So after the hot line, I think Ducky should be next, then Thomas Steen,
and eventually
Teppo, Teemu, and yes Randy Carlyle at some point.

my thoughts based strictly on contributions to Winnipeg Jets Hockey.

If I had master control over retiring of numbers in Winnipeg, only one would make the cut, and that's Milt Stegall's 85.

Everyone else can just be "Honoured" but Milt is a special player.

Ken Ploen.

Which pretty much says why some of this gets silly. There's a huge generational gap between Stegall and Ploen.

So I'd agree that no retiring of numbers and just a ring of honor type of deal. Or HOF as they're suggesting for the Jets.

This is the best conversation with Bobby Hull I've heard. The best quote is "Nobody owns nobody!" Challenge and break the system!

The Winnipeg Jets issued the following statement today with regards to Bobby Hull’s attendance at the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame festivities on Oct. 19 & 20:

“We have been informed Mr. Hull will not be attending our inaugural Hall of Fame induction ceremony for personal reasons. The Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame was created to acknowledge the rich history of our team which began with the World Hockey Association and quickly reached international significance through the achievements of the Hotline. Accordingly, we are deeply disappointed that Mr. Hull has declined our invitation to join his teammates, Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nillson when we honour their collective accomplishments on October 19th and 20th."

The following is a statement on behalf of Mr. Hull:

“It's a true honour to be inducted into the Winnipeg Jets Hall of Fame alongside my former linemates, and friends, Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson. While I will not be in attendance for the celebration, I want to thank the Jets for the special recognition and the wonderful fans of Winnipeg for all of their support throughout the years.”

Wonder if he is ill or just pissed off about something? He seemed fine with receiving the news.

I think there were some fears of some protests. He didn't want it to take away from the celebratory weekend for the Jets.

I'm pretty sure it's due to something along the lines of what Larabee is suggesting.

That would be my vote......nobody wanted that weekend to get hijacked. I thought Brown took a bit of a mild shot at Lawless today during his interview and I am not sure it was called for. No big deal though and I thought Gary handled it really well and have to admit he has started to grow on me "a bit" since he moved on from the Freep.

But if that is the goal then why even fan the Hull flames all summer and attract all that bad publicity? It seems to me that all the bad publicity over the summer is probably more damaging than having him there.

Well I think according to Brown they were a bit suprised at how much attention it had gotten. They just made the call now because I think there hope is that by ending this now (as far as Hull showing) they can avoid a really big issue on the actual weekend.

Protests from who? What baloney. Tub of lard Useless writing stories to collect clicks? I may be blinded when it comes to Bobby because he has always been my favorite player. Since well before the Jets were my fav team, including the Junior Jets. Probably going back to just after he won the Stanley Cup in '61. This is about something else. Can anyone name a person or group that would create trouble about Bobby other than craving fame media writers?

Good.
Obviously opinion is split wrt to Hull, no need for it to detract from the other two inductees moment.

With out Hull the other two wouldn't be in Jets Hall of Fame because the Jets
wouldn't exist. You are watching Jets hockey now because of Hull.
