Mark Messier Jersey Retirement

I'm definitely getting the pay per view to see this.. even though its a Rangers ceremony and I'm an Oiler fan, I couldn't be happier for him. Congratz Moose, i'm sure we'll see him shed a tear with his emotional nature..

He's gonna cry like a baby like at the press conference today.
<<<< Messier tomorrow night

Does anyone know if any of the old Oiler players like Kurri, Coffee, Fuhr or Gretzky will make the ceremony? Most likely Kevin Lowe, Charlie Huddy, Craig Simpson and Craig Mactavish will be there because the Oilers are playing tomorrow.

Gretzky won't be there but he had planned to be there. Gretzky is attending his grandmother's funeral. The Coyotes are also in Buffalo but that's a mute point.

Can't wait! Plus this will be a fun game. Hopefully the emotion of this game will put the Rangers over the top. BTW, who cries more Mess or Vermeil (former coach of the KC Chiefs)? That's an interesting one.

Congrats to Messier. He surely deserves it.

Graves will be there.

I'm thinking Esa Tikkanen will make an appearance as well.

Center Ice has a free preview from jan 10th through jan 16th, so, if u r able to watch Center Ice you won't have to get a PPV.

I don't get it. He wins one cup in NY, and they retire his jersey? I know the Rags went a long time without a cup, but is this an appropriate standard for retiring a jersey? First Bourque and now Messier. Count me out.

Messier's jersey should hang in Edmonton and nowhere else.

First, it wasn't just one good year for Messier. Presiden't trophy in 91-92. And you don't understand the Rangers fan mentality. "The Curse" - 54 years of waiting. And when he got here, he took the team on his back. It was his life's work to get New York that Cup. We will win tonight, he says, Rangers getting manhandled. So he stands up, gets a hattrick and wins the game.

His number should be retired in Edmonton, but also in NY.

Hey, it's your standard. But the Yankees wouldn't have someone's number out there in the outfield for a few good seasons and one world series. Otherwise, there'd be 25 or 30 names on that wall.

Reggie's number out there and he only played for the Yankees for 5 years.

What Messier did for the Rangers is not only win one Stanley Cup, but he turned a franchise into a contender literally in 1 season. Also, the Yankees were a very good team prior to his arrival considering they had just made it to the World Series prior to Reggie joining the team in 1977

Are they going to share a bag of potato chips at center ice together or what?

I'm watching the pre-game special on Messier on MSG (on Center Ice)..

I don't have any spare VHS tapes (lol...)... I hope someone posts a torrent later of the whole thing and the ceremony.

The one cup in NY meant more to more people that all his cups in Edmonton combined.

And I can't stand the Rangers.
