I have a serious suggestion for the mods or administrators or whoever would be in charge of such a thing. Why don't we have 4 sticky threads created.A Crosby thread,an Ovechkin thread, a Crosby/ Ovechkin thread, and a Crosby Hate/Bash thread.
Can people please agree to drop the hyperbole when comparing their rookie seasons? If you thikn one has been better than the other, don't feel bad saying so, but adjectives like "easily", "clearly", "boviously" and so on are unwarranted and do nothing but annoy others. I don't see how anyone could have wached these two this season and then claim that one is significantly ahead of the other. They alternate on the points lead every now and then, with no one getting more than a 5 point lead or so before the other catches back up. Save the "easily better" stuff until the season ends with one of them 10 or 15 points ahead.
As of "right now", I'd say that Ovechkin is the better player, for a lot of reasons already established elsewhere. The league on one hand is taking a big risk in proclaiming in commercials that Crosby is "the next one", but on the other hand, the league needs young talent that creates any kind of media attention.
Madonna has proven over and over that bad press is still press, in the long run.
So people hate Crosby because he comes across as embodying what many people dislike... a bit of arrogance, a bit of elitism (with enough skills to back it up), almost a rich-kid air. He'll probably out of this phase over time.
As far as his diving... Forsberg brings diving to a new art form, and yet that is overlooked when people get all glazy-eyed, and declare him the best 2-way player on the planet. Go figure.
