2006 Draft

I was just wondering if anyone had a current list of the flyers picks in the upcoming draft. I know they have "stockpiled" picks and i can recall a few trades but if someone has a comprehensive list...

I am pretty sure we have a 1st, four(!) 2nds, two 3rds, and one each in the rest of the rounds. I forget exactly whose picks we have, and we won't know exactly where those picks will be yet. Someone will have the details.

AFAIK:

I think the Flyers still have all their own pics left, that's 7 pics, 1 in each round.

+

Panthers 2nd rounder (30-40th)
Coyotes 2nd rounder (35-45th)
Lightnings 2nd rounder (40th-50th)
Blackhawks 3rd rounder (60-70th)

38th, 39th, 43rd, 65th picks, if the season were over right now. Hopefully, they will stay in that general area when the playoffs are done, along with the Flyers having the 30th overall pick in the first round, and the 60th in the second round.

They may try to package some picks to trade down. With the promotions of the rookies, it has left the cubbard a little dry. We really have no d prospects that are a given to play in the NHL outside of Picard. Our d is very thin. How has he been playing this year? The jury is out on the guys we have drafted the last couple years,
I am sure a few will pan out but more will probably bust. Next years Phantoms will probably be a young team with players we drafted being signed. If this is a deep draft then restock the farm or trade for young somewhat established players..

well, he'll only be 19 next year, so if he doesnt make the Flyers, he'll go back to the petes for one last year

He'll probably be in the AHL after one more year with the Petes. Personally I think a year in the A is exactly what any of our prospects need, it's had a great impact on all our rookies.

sounds like philly has the resources to move up in the draft... if fedetenko can get u the 4th pick i seriously think a 1st and two or three 2nds might be able to land u a top 5 pick... although the chances of landed a couple solid players with 5 picks in the fist two rounds is pretty good

Jonathen Toews or Erik Johnson would be my top choices because we need a future top defense man to play with pitkinen and, jonathen toews is a wing and a center.

thats easy to say, but how do you plan on getting one of the top five picks in the draft? no team is gonna trade away their top pick.

That's a crock, anything can be had for a price and Bobby could walk into the draft looking like Paul Allen. It also helps that there isn't a clear cut elite talent like Crosby in this years top five.

Clarke and co. have to be careful about who they want. In a draft like this someone will drop, much like Brown, Kopitar ad Tukonen all did (and all drafted by the same team). Asset management is crucial

I agree with GKJ. There are going to be players that will drop. Look at 2005. Staal was supposed to go in the top 5, but he didn't go until what, 12th? If Clarke can move up into the top 10 or 15 and not give up a boatload to do so, we're gonna be ok.

As for what we draft, it doesn't matter to me if it's a defenseman, forward or goalie. You gotta draft by using the best player available method. Now, if we move up and the player we want is gone, moving back down and collecting extra picks along the way isn't a bad way to go.

Personally, I'd just prefer to stay where we are. We have a boatload of 2nd round picks that could really come in handy in terms of trades. If we could get a good 2nd line winger for a 2nd, then I'd have no problems with that at all. I'd like to see the Flyers decide what we're going to do with Kim Johnsson. If we can't resign him, then it might be time to make a deal with someone to get something back for him. I know San Jose has a glut of defensemen and I wouldn't mind seeing us package up Johnsson with some picks if it meant Scott Hannan coming the other way.
