Pathetic effort.
I thought we were in it, however, (and playing well), until Jackman's gaffe.

Belfour has to be better next game.

Marchment - nice hit!

Nick Kypreos & the rest are insulting Perrott for not stepping up for his team.

Tellqvist had a good game, and came up big in a couple scrambles infront of the net.

Not necessarily, he sure didn't last year when the two teams met for the first time after that war of a playoff series.

As I recall the isles came out fired up, dominated the leafs in all aspects. Domi went with Godard, Corson went with Scathard, Belak was no where to be found.

Renberg makes me sick. He tries so hard, but he doesn't get anything done. Not great defensively, terrible offensively. We should have dumped him and replaced him with Magnus Arvedson. He's hurt often, but he costs less.

Great game eh!!!!

ISLANDERS dominate Leafs and beat them on the scoreboard and on the fightcard and checks.

NY ISLANDERS 5
LEAFS 2

Godard bloodies Marchment, takes care of Domi and Tucker gets pushed around all night.

How come the high priced Leafs like Sundin etc. aren't earning their money? It's like the Leafs didn't show up.

Sweet!

It's funny how you neglect to mention Marchment beating on Godard...

If you seriously think Godard "dominated",you must be ****ed in the head.

Like I said before...

I don't hold a lot of hope for this season when the leafs can't find their guns. 2 goals a night will not get it done in th NHL. And 3 jackasses behind our net while Eddie is out there alone is pathetic. We have no defence (a given) we now (apparently) have no offence, and with these two instances

No defence + No offence = No chance in hell

The leafs have always been an offensive team. If they havn't brought the big guns online by game 10, then I would say that we'll be lucky not to come in last in the conference, let alone make the playoffs....

Lets do the math based on the first 5 games...

1 win, 2 ties 2 losses

4 points out of a possible 10

So...

4 = X Where 164 is the total available points this season
-- --
10 164

10X=656
X=65.6 So round up to 66

Based on their current current play, they Will wind up with 66 points.

And based on 2002-2003 Conference standings, that would put is 13th out of 15 teams, and WAYYYYYYYY out of the playoffs. Last year it took a .500 average + 1 point to make the playoffs in the eastern division. To Say that I am dissapointed with the underachievement of the buds so far this year is an understatement. They will have to get theur collective ***** in gear RIGHT NOW if they want to have any chance at all. They need to start scoring, increase their speed if possible and get their defense humming. Now is the time. If they wait to turn it up, then they will be golfing come May, which is not a nice way to enter the players strike. I'd rather see them play till June and carry home some hardware, but not the way they are currently stepping onto the ice...

Comments welcome.

Nice game by the Isles tonight.

I thought the game was a little closer than the 5-2 final. Snow was awful on the last goal where was he going. Belfour was awful letting in 4 goals on 9 shots. Should have had both of Czerkawsks goals, he didn't see Blakes in front and not much he could have done w/ Kvasha as he was camped out in front. Thought the fights were ok Godard did what he had to do. Though he had a slight edge on Domi who came in after Godard wrecked Tucker at the blueline which was proceeded by Tucker running around the ice the next shift like a lunatic and eventually taking a stupid penalty which was not needed at that time as the Leafs were trying to get back in the game. Godard hit Domi w/ a few good shots that Domi got back up from as I said not beating but a slight edge to Godard. Thought Godard did the right thing after Marchment wrecked Bergenheim who had his head down hit him w/ a hard clean check Godard came in to help out. Thought Marchment had the better of the fight no beating by any means but won the fight which he would have won big if Godard doesn't land that big one in the end.
1st time I saw the Leafs all year and they just didn't sem to be clicking. Although the had about 25 shots I didn't see much from the big guys Sundin, Nolan to name 2. Althought Sundin did miss a nice tip in in the 1st right in front. I thought I was going to see Perrot fight heard alot about him but didn't go last night. I know a few times he was near cairns but the 2 never dropped the gloves.
I'm sure the Leafs will remember this one and by the next time they play them will probably have things straighted out and playing better. Give the Isles a little credit for last night even though Belfour had an awful game they played well in the last 2 periods after looking very shaky at times in the 1st as the leafs just missed several odd man breaks.

that Marchment beat Godard, but the W or L is irrelevant to me in the big scheme of things. I am just happy that he stuck up for his teammate after getting drilled(by a CLEAN HIT).

on the game, the Leafs D looks dreadful, very unsteady at best, and got killed down low. Marchment i thought looked like the best of the bunch. Klee looked alrite as did Kaberle. Sundin was nowhere to be found last nite. Have these problems been going on since hte start of the season?

...and based on this start, Sundin will finish with no points this season, Tellqvist will start no games, Antropov will lead the team in scoring...

You can't project to an 82 game season based on FIVE GAMES.

Sure, the start is lousy, but let's not get carried away.

What if you were an Anaheim fan? 1 point in 5 games, they'd be on pace for around 17 points this season. I bet they surpass that total.
