Take for a minute that you are a professional hockey player. You just entered free agency. Every team is making you an offer for the same amount, same number of years, and there is no negotiating any of it. So it all comes down to where you want to go.
I want to know where you would play?
As in what organization would you most want to play?
When you answer this question, discard the fact that you are a fan of a certain organization. Base your decision on the management of the organization, the fan base, the players already there, the farm team, and the direction the organization is heading in.
Then, on the flip side, tell me what organization you would most NOT want to play for.
I am not saying this because I am a Red Wings fan, but I would honored to play for Detroit. My reasoning is this: In Mike Ilitch, you have an owner who is involved with things, and gives a **** what is going on. With GM Ken Holland, you get a knowledgeable mind and a good staff. The scouting program on the Wings is second to none, especially with guys like Hakan Anderson over in Europe with a way of finding diamonds in the rough.
As for who I wouldn't play for, I wouldn't play for Brian Burke, I don't care where he is.
I mean, come on.. MSG, the fans, the city, the media.. thats just awesome
i wouldnt like to play in st. louis , got no reason for this choice... it just wouldnt drag me to st. louis , yea and pittsburgh seems to be a big ****up aswell.
bad fans, bad stadium, bad management, ugly city... duh...
Why? Because this is my city. Plain and simple. Every kid dreams of playing for their hometown team, mine would be no different.
Otherwise it would be Montreal, because of the history and the fans. That or Vancouver, I just love that city.
Least want to play for...Philadelphia, easily. I loathe the city and the fans. A Pittsburgher playing for a Philadelphian team is just blasphemous. R.J. Umberger should be ashamed.
Otherwise, either of the New York teams. I want as little to do with that city as possible.
“The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile, but that it is indifferent. If we can come to terms with this indifference and accept the challenges of life within the boundaries of death, our existence as a species can have genuine meaning and fulfillment. However vast the darkness, we must supply our own light.” - Stanley Kubrick
Even if I WASN'T a die-hard Habs fan, I'd want to play in Montreal. I love the city and the culture, the history and aura around the team itself, and I have faith in the management now. 5 years ago, I didn't. The media blitz and the pressure and fanaticism might be tough to deal with, but also exciting.
I wouldn't want to play in Florida, Arizona, California, Carolina... besides the fact that they're not hockey cities, I have extremely fair skin and burn to a crisp at the drop of a hat.
I'd play in Boston (because i really would love to live in Boston), NYC (because it's NYC), Detroit (My fav team), Atlanta (my 2nd fav team and i like the city as well) and TO (i like TO as a city a lot).
I'd never wanna play in calgary, edmonton, columbus.
It would be nice to play somewhere like Minny, or Vancouver, just because i like those areas of the country.
BOS and CHI, would be cool, too.
I would hate to play for NJ or NYI, cause of the rival thing. I would not want to play for PITT because the city is god awful, Philly for the scummy residents, or LA, cause i hate southern California and its people.
Who would want to play in Detroit?? Yes, it's a well run organization, but the city is a complete dump. I believe americans (outside of the michigan area) themselves call it 'the armpit of america'. Yuck.
As for the city i'd like to play for: Colorado, Vancouver,Boston or NY.
Cities i wouldn't: Montreal (due to the taxation, incidentally it's why most free agents don't want to play in this city), nashville (ewww, country town, yuck), Philly (malcontent residents live there), LA (plastic city with fake people).
Why is everyone bashing Carolina? Is it because management treats its players second to none and tries to do what is asked by players (Jeff O'Neill, Ron Francis), or is it because it is great place to have kids with a great climate, or is it because we are kicking most of your ***** and have some great young talent that will be here for a while. So get used to seeing us around. Enjoy NY all of you as you disappoint the fans there once again.
