So much for trading Eric Brewer

Out with a dislocated left shoulder in tonight's game against Atlanta - initial reports are that it's not good.

Ah man, this might jeopardize the Blues hopes for a playoff run...

They weren't going to trade him anyways...they gotta spend money on someone next year.

Instead of Brewer, I'd spend 7 mils on one of Redden or Chara or Luongo. Blues have only three players signed through next year and will be able to have any pick of the UFAs. They're in a perfect position to start anew.

If the projections on next season's cap are correct and the max goes to $42 million, the lower limit would be $26 million - meaning the Blues only have to spend $21.75 million to fill out at least 16 roster spots to make the lower limit. (They have Mayers, Jackman, Salvador, and the recently acquired but still yet to show Orszagh). If you figure we keep the RFA's, we've got about $10 million tied up in 10 players - meaning we need to spend $16 million on at least 10 more players.

And if Bill Laurie still owns the Blues next year, I'll put money down that the payroll won't be much over $26 million. We really need someone to offer to buy the team and have a serious committment to keep him in St. Louis - if the NHL allowed a Green Bay Packers-style ownership group, I'd lead the drive to get people to kick in to buy the team.

BTW, it's a shoulder separation and not dislocation... which is even worse!!!

Blues will be in a tough position to sign alot of top name free agents. If the player is looking for money they will go for the Blues if they shell out the most, but if a player wants to win , they will go to a better team who offers then slightly less.
