TSN: Julien fired!! Gainey head coach (ALL TALK IN HERE)

http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=150719&hubname=

Montréal - Montreal Canadiens' general manager Bob Gainey has taken over head coaching duties on an interim basis.

Claude Julien, who was hired as head coach in January of 2003, has been fired along with assistant coach Rick Green.

Gainey is the 27th head coach in Canadiens' history. Guy Carboneau will join Gainey behind the bench as associate coach.

While I'm sure Gainey will have a positive impact I really don't think Julien was the problem.

WOW!!! I'm so surprised I don't know how to feel. All I can say is I can't wait for tonight's game to hear what people have to say about this move and how the team responds.

I just hope that whoever replaces Julien full-time is someone with NHL coaching experience and more offensive minded . . . if such a candidate exists.

Ok, now that this has sunk in a little, I think it's for the best.

But firing Rick Green? Was he really that bad too?

I don't think it's a matter of Julien being the problem, but rather that the boys need a change, and the old system just wasn't getting it done.

Julien may not have been the worst coach, but I'm confidant whoever is hired to replace him will be at least as good.

Rick Green was responsible of our defense, I'm not against it as I never liked him as a coach anyway... Remember when he used to give Rivet and Souray permanent status back in 2002, even though their play was horrendous?

I wonder if it means that Gainey has been unable to make a trade though? And who will replace him? Brent Sutter?

Wow!!! I didn't think this was going to happen untill after the season...So obviously BG hasn't thrown in the towel on this season yet...but I think it was pretty obvious CJ had lost something in the room...

Thank god, Julien was not the right coach for this team, glad he's finally gone.

Jarvis and Melancon stay but do we have a ex D to coach the Ds? Can we really ask an ex-forward like Jarvis (or Carbo) to coach the Ds???

We still have the same players though I hope it won't be Gainey's only move....

This thought has crossed my mind as well. Gainey and everyone knew we needed a change. Perhaps he couldn't make a trade, and so his only option left for change was the coach.

I just hope Carbo will not end up head coach too soon. We had our share of rookie NHL coaches!! Enough already.

Who will get nominated now? Gainey's not going to be a head coach long term, no?

I like it thought, keeping with tradition and having two ex captains as the coaches. They know how to win and they will see first hand who needs to stay/go.
No messin' around now boys...

The only problem I had with CJ is that the Habs would always sit on a lead, and most often get burned. He wasn't as quick to bench players this year either. Other than that, he was a good coach.

I think this team needs player upgrades at certain positions. Defence especially. A good top 4 guy with lots of experience and can play alot of minutes.

It says Gainey is only the interim coach. But he does have coaching experience with Minnesota/Dallas, so we may see him in the position for more than a game or two.

the sad thing is that he's an excellent coach, but lost his locker, it'S quite clear that Gainey is gonna iron fist these guys now
