Julien is a good man and a good coach. He deserved better.

As for Rick Green, to me he's the Mad Mike of assistants in MTL: I don't know how he survived so long.

Am I the only one who thinks Julien got screwed by becoming the head coach few years ago? I think he won't be back in the NHL anymore.

Anyway, he should have stayed. Bad call I think.

Exactly. It's not that Julien is a bad coach. But he lost control of the team, and lost any ability to motivate his players, it seems.

i agree with you he got screwed big time by gainey...
but like i said gainey wants to save his job so he had to do something... maybe he tried to trade theodore and it didnt work so julien paid for that

TSN writes that Gainey has been coach and GM of the North Stars for 4 years so he might end the season for us. He's a former NHL coach though, and a very good one, so it's no problem really. But who really believes that all we needed was the firing of our coaching staff? I still believe that player movement would be required to make this team more competitive.

I wonder when any team will end up using the Bill Cowher strategy... the guy is the head coach of the Steelers for like 12 years... even if they were losing... he never got fired... and see now where are the Settlers... the coach is never... well most of the time... the problem

So one of the last move that Julien did for the Habs was actually put Bonk on the ice after his major pass

That will stay in our memories like the yellow jacket of Therrien

I must say this though, out of the past 4 coaches Montreal has had (Julien, Therrien, Vigneault, Tremblay). Julien was the better coach. Gainey probably tried looking into making a trade, but the return was probably close to nothing since all our players are in a slump so this was option B. I feel bad for Claude Julien, but that's the name of the game if you're a coach in the NHL. From going to being one of the hottest teams in the NHL to the complete opposite, you know someone's wasn't safe whether it was coach or player.

That's nonsense. If he was never "Gainey's guy", then why did Gainey give that guy a long-term contract extension instead of bringing in his own guy when Julien's first contract expired?

I feel bad for Julien. He's a good coach. I wish him good luck in his future hockey endeavors, and I hope this shakeup does some good for the team.

Assistant Coach. I think if Carbo was going to be head coach, Gainey would have given him the reigns right away. Not to say that he won't get a look for the head coaching job, but I don't think it's at all decided he's our man.

Why is everyone such a hypocrite? You guys complain that he sucked at coaching when he made crappy lines and benched our young core guys (Komisarek and Perezhogin), then you guys (some ppl not all) say the opposite when he's fired on how an amazing coach he is.

Anyways I think it's a better move.
