I'm more interested in seeing how NBC will present their games than I actually am about this game. I'm still looking forward to watching Wings-Rangers but another new hockey channel to critique. I'm curious to see which broadcast team we'll get for the game. For those with Center Ice, you're able to watch all three NBC games...so yea for us!
As for the game itself...the Rangers are regaining credibility around the league and are a legit playoff team. Jagr has stayed healthy and is once again one of the premier offensive threats in the league. I'm hoping to see Lundqvist in net today to go against the Swedish 6 for the Wings. It would be cool to see Jagr go head-to-head with Zetterberg and Datsyuk but I'm going to bet Babs will throw Draper and Maltby at the Rucinsky-Straka-Jagr line. The Prucha-Rucchin-Sykora might draw the Datsyuk and Zetterberg duo instead. Should be some interesting line matchups. I would assume we see Legace today coming off a win and they won't play again until Wednesday. Should be fun...GO WINGS! (30th win today...hopefully)
I read one article today that said Lundqvist will start, so you'll get your wish.
And i agree that i am looking forward to seeing NBC's presentation. Hopefully the Messier retirement will draw some casual fans to tune into this one on this dreary, wet New York morning. Hey, and I thought I was the only other one up already thinking about this game.
Keys for the Rangers is "skating". They have to come out hard in this one. I for one saw times in both Edmonton and Calgary games where we didn't skate for periods of a time, and were back on our heals. Like the first period with Calgary.
I hoping the Wings feed off the win against Philly and make a really strong showing today. Back to back wins against strong teams would be great to see. Right now, though I'm hoping that I can actually see the Wings/ Rags game because the NBC site doesn't have a coverage map of who sees what games. I might end up seeing the Avs/Flyers (which should be a good game too, but not the Wings).
My predicition is that I will be completely annoyed by Mike Emrick before the 7 minute mark of the 1st period. I hate the way he calls a game....ESPECIALLY on national television where he feels like he needs to explain every single nuance of the game like he is broadcasting to a bunch of 5 year olds.
Anyway...I say it will be a bit of a shootout.
Zetterberg (3), Datsyuk, Shanny, Franzen, Yzerman for the Wings.
Rucinsky (2), Jagr, Prucha and Nylander for the Rags.
Why? Why the bells and whistles? You cant FORCE people to like the sport by miking guys and putting cameras in their skates and on their shoulder pads and making pucks glow and all that garbage. People are going to like the sport for the sport...not all this extra crap. God, I hate national TV.
They are keeping track of Shanahan and Jagr's ice time too. Every time either of these guys are on the ice a clock will pop up on the screen to tally how much ice time they get.
Again I ask...WHY? Is somebody REALLY going to think that is so cool that they will start watching hockey more on television?
Good luck today, guys. Should be a fun game to watch. Hopefully the Rangers show up as they tend to leave their legs on the bus so many times. But, it'll be fun getting to watch Zetterberg and co. on the ice. It'll be a good test for our boys.
The Red Wings are coming off a very dominate game against the Flyers, so I will be expecting the same against the surprising New York Rangers. Nicklas Lidtrom will continue his Norris calibre season and will score the game-winner in the first period. 4-0 Detroit is my guess. Henrik Zetterberg will continue his amazing play, while some of the other guys will start regaining their scoring touch (Maltby, Draper, maybe even Cleary)
