Jacques Demers comments on Cap Koivu !

Basically, he went out again your beloved captain saying he's not doing the job that goes with the C on the jersey.

He's asking : "Where is he ?"

I tend to think like him

What's wild to me is that I have been bashing Koivu and Theo, and the rest of the crew for so long now, to see it all hitting the fan with the mainstream just brings a tear to my eye.

Koivu might very well be a "quiet leader" but dammit that's just not enough.

Guys take their cue off of passion, not compassion..

Like every single other game, he'll be on the ice busting his @** off and leading by example.

Jacques Demers can't even read so, to me, his opinion is not valid.

Seriously though, Demers needs to shut up and go far, far away.

I'll post what I posted in another thread here:

That and his comment about it being easier for his team to be a family because they "didn't have a United Nations in the locker room" makes me wonder if he just can't stand the fact that a European is the captain of the Montreal Canadiens.

Speaking as somebody whose group of friends could be described as a "united nations" of sorts, I don't find it difficult for all of us to get along.

Whatever though. There's a reason these people are pundits and not involved in the running of organizations.

A better question would be 'WHERE ARE THEY ALL?'

I've posted this same response to Demers's comments already, but...

Demers started by asking "Where is he?" and saying that he should be more vocal in defending his players, etc.

That's fine. Fair statement.

Following this is where Demers crossed a line. He got angry and questionned Koivu's motives... bringing up his impending UFA status, saying he isn't and shouldn't be a priority for the Canadiens, saying Koivu wouldn't care because he isn't even sure Carbonneau will be his coach next year... Those are personal attacks, and you don't do that.

C'mon Habs, you can't have one opinion and expect the rest to fall in line. Koivu's a leader by example, he's not rah rah nor is he a visible guy away from the rink. If Demers feels another sort is required, or at least he should have been front and center today, it's not only his right but his job to say so.

Even though I don't agree with everything Demers says I do think it's a fact that a lockerroom is easier to manage when you have 2 groups to deal with (anglos and francos) instead of 5 when Russians are always together, Suedes, Finns, Tcheques and so on. As far as having a European as team captain, I don't think Demers would be that racist since he absolutely knows what it is to be in a minority (his illiteracy of course...).

As far as Demers comments on Koivu not being involved enough, it happens all the time here than we make some comments about the team, we are told that we know nothing and we're just sitting behind a computer so the organization know better. This could also be said in that case, I believe Demers knows better than us, he's there, always around the team and obviously have some contacts in the team that tells him Captain Koivu should do more. But I do agree that the rest of his comments were not appropriate as he was just ventilating his frustration since another of his ''confrèrie'' was fired.

But we still need Koivu in the team, he's one of the only players that works in butt off, and if his captaincy is the problem, just remove the C but that's definately not enough to let him go or to trade him. He's not the problem, he's definately part of the solution.

Go Carbo! Go Gainey! Go Habs!

I agree that this team needs more veteran leadership, but that doesn't mean Koivu himself hasn't been a good leader. There's alot of 1st and 2nd year guys on this team. Koivu can't do it all by himself. I think Kovalev is the only guy who's ever won a Cup.

Koivu is the last person that should be blamed. Try Dandenault, Ribeiro, Zednik, Bonk, Theodore...

Jacques Demers is a puke. Maybe we should get into how this long stretch of bad Canadiens teams started with him. And don't give me that crap that he won a Stanley Cup. Al McNeil won a cup and was fired.

If he actually blames Koivu for what's going on, I have no respect for Demers. I repeat he's a puke.
