In the post-game interview, it sounded as if Vokoun would be in net tonight again. I hope he got a good night's sleep! At least they weren't travelling. Upshall's up, wonder what the lines will be now?

this is an area that Detroit could really have a one-up on us. They can throw in a rested Osgood against our acrobatic 41 shot stopping Vokoun. I hope he's up to the challenge.

Maybe they'll be tired...I mean...taking 41 shots and repeatedly skating into our zone can wear you out!

Tell me about it noMO; Detroit should really be tired after skating circles around us all night last night. Hopefully, we come out with a little more wind in our sails tonight, and for the love of all things Holy, quit turning the puck over.

'Koun really didn't turn the puck over at the blue line, he just wanted some breakaway practice - wanted to show us that he could in fact stop one.

Hopefully last night was an anamoly due to the wierd circumstances of the game. However, watching it, we just could not knock anyone off the puck no matter how hard we tried. Still, I think we have a very good chance of winning this game. Vokoun has his confidence, and if there is one thing that always defeats the Red Wings, its when a goalie gets in there head. Vokoun, always plays well against the Wings....I think psychologically we have the edge there, but for the most part...the Wings have most of the advantages in a head-to-head. We need to come out skating and physical. The first time Holmstrom steps in front of the net, he needs a stick to his legs or back...etc. We have to set the tone early, because last night.....the Wing forwards could skate along the boards without being touched, skate behind the net without being touched, and park 2-3 players in front of Vokoun at will.

Oh - Nick Lidstrom owns us . He scores more on us than it seems any other Red Wing.

Is our strategy is to let them out skate us, and out shoot us in the first period, but not outscore us. Then pour it on in the 2nd and 3rd since the Wings are so tired. That will be a hard sell, but to execute it woul be amazing.

I am not too worried about the shots numbers, heck we almost always get outshot....and the Wings always shoot.
If we can allow TV to see the puck from outside 35 feet and clean up the front of the net we will have a good shot at winning. Key is staying disciplined, keeping a decent wall at the blue line, and keeping some pressure on their D in transition.

Here is a list of their shots last night..

EV 20 LANG, Snap, 35 ft
EV 14 SHANAHAN, Slap, 36 ft

So, about as many close in shots as Detroit had...
Keep them wide, don't let Shanahan set up on the goal line a la Sully on the PP and clear the front. The only thing that scares me is the Lidstrom is so dangerous when we sag to protect the net...

the distance of our shots game after game is generally from in much closer than our opponent...something that illustrates that with our speed and quickness we get higher quality scoring chances than our opponents geberally and why the shot counter isn't necessarily a good indicator of our game most nights..

I thought Sullivan's would have been much closer than 22 ft, being that it was a breakaway.

But it seems that we do a lot of shooting from the point, since we get a fair amount of our goals from tips on net or rebounds close to it.

What was the distance of Scottie Upshall's assist? That one must have come from quite a ways. ;-D

Anyhoo...

This will be a big test for us. We looked so sloppy last night, we need to turn it around and put some effort into it.

I am much happier with how we have played overall the first 2 periods...completely different than last night....however the PP still looks like a Chinese firedrill, mainly because of Maltby and Draper's forecheck.

We are skating better, winning more one on one battles, out hitting them, not afraid to carry the puck, and Koun is still in the Zone. I feel much better going into the third than I did last night.

Hordy scratched tonight and only played 4 shifts last night [thought it was due to all the PK time]....any news of him being hurt?

Upshall playing good so far in limited iice time, drawing 2 penalties.

Legace still looking for his jock on Sully's shorty...

C'mon Preds...this period is HUGE.
