Roenick and Miller skating this am

Watched them both for a while at Toyota this morning. Miller was working hard on offensive stuff, which I liked. Roenick looked like a fat old man who doesn't like to work hard in practice. I wonder if he was hanging out with Iverson in Philly.

"Practice? It's just practice!"

Dude, at your age, you need to work HARDER than the Jeff Giulianos and Tom Kostopouloses of the world. Otherwise, you'll be a healthy scratch before you know it. Styles.

Skate, Dude!

I believe the correct term is Kostopouli.

So he loses 17 pounds and drops to 200, and he's still considered fat. I'm 230lbs with 20 inch biceps, what does that make me?

We never traded him, he was a free agent signing.

I agree. 200lbs for a 6'1" player is not fat, and the fact that he's dropped that much is a testament to how hard he's been working out. I like you, GM, but what gives? JR has dropped 17lbs and has been working out twice a day to get himself in the best shape for his return. Questioning his work ethic at the moment (based on one skate) seems rather ridiculous.

That's just one group of people. After tonight's loss, I'm about a shot away from finishing a bottle of southern comfort.

I'm not saying he's fat, I'm questioning his work ethic.

Let me start with some qualifying remarks. I am a huge JR fan. I was told by Team LA that I was the first person to order a Roenick jersey after we signed him. I have been a fan of his for years, largely because he's an American, but also because of his style of play. I like him for the same reasons I liked Rick Tocchet -- he's a gritty player who will fight and can score. I also like the Flyers, so when he went to Philly that elevated him further in my eyes, and when he came here I was thrilled. I've been one of his biggest defenders here and at LGK, pointing out the positive things he's done despite not scoring.

Let me also say that I haven't watched him 24/7. I am commenting on what I have seen in brief spurts at Toyota combined with what I've seen in games (not just based on one skate). Maybe he's getting hard cardio on a treadmill or a bike after skating. I don't know. I am only commenting on what I have been able to see.

One thing I have noticed about JR this year is that he floats around a lot in games. When it comes to skating hard and being physical, I think he's been a spot-picker. In practice, he should be working hard. While it is good to see him skating, what I saw was someone who doesn't think he needs to work hard. He'd do a suicide at 70% speed, then take a long break instead of doing another one right away. He'd do crossover drills, again not at 100%, then take a long break.

Look, I'm a fat old man (JR and I are about the same age). I play in an adult league in a lower division. I'm not good. But I do know what it's like to practice, and I know how much effort it takes to do different things in practice. I've also played enough sports in my life and had enough success doing so to know what it takes to be successful.

JR has been a huge disappointment to me. He is NOT working hard in practice unless I am missing something. At $5 million a year, that's completely unacceptable to me. It should be to you too.

Somebody go watch him practice and tell me I'm wrong.

I don't know, but did anyone see him at the game the other night? The dude had on THE ugliest suit ever. Looked like a big bottle of Guilden's brown mustard. I'll try and find a picture of him in it.

If he can't get the right cut for his skate there, might as well get something he'll make use of!
