Every team should work like Lev Prague did - they used to publish only the number of people who actually attended the game - by passing a turnstile. Or as Wisla Krakow do in football - stating the number of sold (season) tickets as well as the number of actual visitors.

But if a team sells say, 1,000 season tickets, and only 600 of them show up.? That ticket is still sold for that game isn't it?

As I said, there is always the option of stating both figures.

CSKA - Jokerit 2326, Dynamo - Torpedo 4670. Games in the same time, absolutely zero marketing approach. Play-off games? I dont know, but this is fail for KHL reputation. Finally, this is long term situation in Moscow... what KHL want to do with this?

You don't see the big picture ermolli, they just need a brad new 20k arena to attract 5000 fans instead of 2300

Seriously though, the starting time is extremely inconvenient, and the big national holiday is today, but there just can't be an excuse for this kind of attendance. It's Kuznya-level.

The situation with the attendance of ZSKA is a big joke. I have heard that some of the problems is due to huge traffic jams in Moscow. Not sure how much that actually affects the attendance, maybe the fanbase is simply pretty low. Inside the hockey rink the team is one of the biggest and most expensive in the league, outside its a soviet era monolith that nobody actually cares about

People mostly travel to the arena by metro anyway, Moscow is often undriveable in evenings. But whoever scheduled the working day games on 17:00 must have been concussed.

Meanwhile, today was a national holiday, so a bit more respectable 8017 for Dynamo and 5000 for CSKA. Expecteed sellouts in Yaroslavl and St. Petersburg too.

On the other hand, I believe if Spartak will play all games in the VTB next season (?) attendance will go close to 10k per game. Dynamo maybe 8k per game. So, step-by-step. Than we can see any potential in CSKA new arena in this case.

Sad if true - http://chelorg.com/2017/02/19/the-av...-years-by-4-6/

Will need to wait for www.iihf.com to confirm.

Did Kunlun start pulling a good, consistent crowd after moving back to Beijing for home games?

Both long sides are almost completely sold out (at both floors) after a quick look at Lippu. Seems like the corner sections are the only ones that are hard to sell.

Personally I don't think such a drop matters. If Dinamo Riga were performing well they'd be averaging around 6,000 for example. So thanks to Kunlun joining and dragging all the numbers down!

The KHL is still a very young and developing league too so its always going to have these ups and downs until the league settles on its format/number of teams ect

Apparently season ticket holders have a playoff ticket reserved, if they don't pay for the playoff season ticket, then they will go on sale before the game.

Not any fresh news, but I've read that Admiral will modify the Fetisov Arena in the offseason, so it's capacity would increase from 5.5k to 7k.

Complete regular season attendance numbers:

Interesting to note:
- Kuznya has crashed to the last place in attendance as well, losing nearly 1/3 of their last year's attendance numbers
- Radulovless CSKA, who obviously need a 20-thousand arena, lost almost a thousand as well, only attracting 3300 fans on average with their Kotinent Kup.
- Yugra with a slight growth the 2nd straight year.
- Vityaz with an expected explosion for the playoff hunt;
- Riga as the biggest faller;
- Dynamo Moscow lost a thousand, while Spartak rised by a thousand;
- Traktor with their record average;
- Minsk had a strong push and came back to a definitive attendance lead.

Riga's is shocking! But given the team that was put together this season who can blame them for not going. Hopefully next season we will be back up the ranking.

I found it interesting though with Riga. Our last game against Neftefkhimik drew an attendance of, 8,026! One of the highest of the season for us. We did get 2 live concerts and free t-shirts so maybe thats why

Last Liiga play-off match I went to was in 2013 with Jokerit playing against Lukko, 1st round. Attendance was around 7000, so your estimate is about right. And this was a hyped team, which was supposed to win the championship.

Jokerit first round playoff games at Hartwall and final years at Nordis had often lower attendance compared to the regular season. Notable exceptions of course were the games vs HIFK. The season ticket holders had to buy a playoff season ticket and the sponsors/partners weren't there anymore either. Fans had also become accustomed to success and saved their moeny unti lthe semifinal stage or final. Of course back then, there also more games on free tv and that took a big toll on attendance if the opponent wasnt' that interesting.

Also 2013 team wasn't that good, they weren't the favorites to win. After the NHL players bolted, the team's problems began to surface. Winning the regular season was helped in large by the lock-out.

That's actually not true. The last time Jokerit played in the semifinals in Liiga (2012), they managed to get around 8800 in attendance in the first semifinal match and only in the second match they were able to barely break 10 000. In 2008 they had a crowd of 7000 in a potentially decisive semifinal match and the year before even less, only 6600.

No matter how you try to spin it, Liiga Jokerit just wasn't an attractive team if compared to KHL Jokerit. I cannot imagine that a KHL conference semifinal in Helsinki, let alone a conference final, would draw less than 10k. It's not really a fair comparison though, because the on-ice product in KHL is so much better and the fans seem to know and appreciate it.

Back then, both games were on free tv. It was a given that it would eat up 1000-2000 people from going to the arena.

Jokerit marketing was at such a poor level for the last decade or so of their last 10 years in Liiga (though Kekäläinen worked to improve it), that no one was suprised that Hartwall wasn't so packed.

Since attendances are declining and majority of Jokerit fans even at Jatkoaika would now prefer for the team to return to "home", it doesn't seem there's that much appreciation. The number on casual or non-hardcore fans has increased and marketing has played a big part in that but the club or it's success nor lack of, doesn't mean that much to those people.
