Not much for conspiracy theories but...

...this is VERY interesting. This is from the Dec. 31st game against Pittsburgh where referee Craig Spada gave the game to Pittsburgh by calling an unsportsmanlike penalty on Malik in OT. Look I'm not a big fan of these conspiracy theories and in the age of political correctness we hear a lot of them, and I always hate them. Therefore I want to give Spada the benefit of the doubt, but unless this is a pretty big coincidence, I don't see how this article is wrong.

The Bird usually writes good stuff. Interesting article but I think it was a coincidence.

Well he makes a goood point Crosby was whinning the entire game. Although there can be another agenda with Crosby being the savior and everything. Honestly though, are Canadians just that well behaved? I mean if you think about it Canadians and Americans may be more likely to talk since they speak English better.

Well apparently someone brought up an example from the juniors to prove me wrong. Spada is still an idiot for making that call in OT.

At the NHL level:

"Columbus' best opportunity to get a foothold came on an extended five-on-three power play midway through the first period. After Erik Cole was called for hooking, Ray Whitney complained about the call and picked up a penalty himself from Craig Spada, working solo until officiating partner Bill McCreary arrived for the second period."

Ray Whitney was born in Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

Ok thanks. I wonder if that was after the article, I haven't read it. It seems that Craig Spada really likes theser penalties. He may not have a Canadian bias but still he likes to give penalties because his feelings were hurt. I hate when refs do it in ANY sport. They put the game in their own hands. The fans paid to watch the players not the refs. Plus this was in OT, so I still think Spada is moron.

The article written by "Gabe" is dated January 1st, 2006. The Columbus-Carolina game in which Whitney earned his unsportsmanlike conduct penalty occurred on December 16th, 2005.

The guy simply failed to do his research.

I don't know enough about Spada to claim any sort of Canadian bias, but the bias towards Crosby in that game is pretty much not debateable. It is hard to argue with, however, because when the league invests so much in the kid, you can be sure it also provides for him to receive atleast a little bit of special treatment. Whether this is good for the game or not I do not know.

That's why he whines so much, he's a spoiled kid that thinks that the entire NHL needs to bow down to him.

Crosby has earned a ton of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties this season.

Most referees are definitely not adverse to punishing him if he shoots his mouth off.

Don't know if that is true, but if it is, is it really a surprise, considering who his mentor is?

Not sure if this is a conspiracy. By the way, was Malik wearing an "A" for the game? Because only "C"'s and "A"'s are allowed to argue with refs.... Crosby is an "A" so he's allowed
