MTL/FLOR Trade Proposal - Theo for Luongo - Let's Get it Done... But How???

I'm curious about something.... I'm pretty sure that if Luongo is a restricted free agent and the Panthers refuse to match what the Canadiens would offer him in the off-season, they would have to compensate Florida with 1 first round draft pick for every million that he is offered UP TO A MAXIMUM of 5... Basically Montreal would have To give 5 first round draft picks... hmmmmmmm.

Do you guys really think that Gainey will do that in the off-season? I highly doubt it... a trade... maybe... but if you guys remember, Florida also wanted Michael Ryder and he's not going anywhere...

Please correct me if I'm wrong about the draft picks...

I would offer this...

Jose Theodore
Alexander Perezhogan
First or Second Rounder (Probably FIrst)

(Maybe even throw in Bonk if Jacques Martin wants him back!!! )

For

Roberto Luongo
Oli Jokinen

What do you guys think?

IMHO...... too high a price. We should wait for Theo to break out of his slump rather than trading our assets to move our franchise goalie.

NO NO NO.

The last thing we need is to tie up $6 million on a goalie for 5 years. Would rather have Price in 3 years (at the end of Theo's three year deal) and get that ridiculous number off the books.

Haven't we learned our lesson?

On top of it, Lupien (his agent) will ask for even more since he will want Luongo compensated for the higher taxes. He tried it the last time with Lapointe's contract.

Who would care about Price if we would get Luongo

Luongo is only 26, he'll be 27 in april and he's the best goaltender in the NHL. Price would become expendable to go get a bluechip prospect of a defenseman or that big center we always needed.

I doubt Price would be NHL ready (as a starter) in 3 years.

The only way this deal happens is if there is an impasse — if Luongo and Keenan get to the point where one of the two parties walks away from the table and refuses to come back. Then, I could see the possibility of a one-up deal, but only if Theo picked up his play as well (which I’m positive he will). Given the potential difference between their salaries, which could be up to half a million or more, I see no reason to give up more than just Theo.
