Good for Weller, shows what the team thinks of Dale.

Why should Purinton be captain? Is he even captain material?

Great news to hear. I'm very happy with the choice. Weller is only the third player to wear the "C" for the Wolf*Pack and the first two (Ken Gernander and Derek Armstrong) have had great careers. Replacing Gernander as captain is going to be a tough challenge, but I've always liked the determination and hustle Weller plays with and the fact that he is always willing to defend a teammate when the need arises.

Gernander was a great leader by example and I think that Craig Weller brings similiar qualities to the team now. I truly hope that Weller does get a legitimate shot at making the NHL someday...he is a guy you love to root for.

Congrats Craig!

Since the team moved to Hartford there has been only one captain--Gernander. If you doubt me, check out the caption on the picture at www.hartfordwolfpack.com

Only the second captain after Gernander...wow. Must be some pressure there but also must be a huge honor, congrats to Craig.

Regardless of what the picture says...I specifically remember Derek Armstrong wearing the "C" for one game during the period when Gernander played in the Spengler Cup. It was the 2000-01 season. I was a Wolf*Pack season ticket holder and a die-hard Gernander fan and didn't think it was right that Armstrong wore the "C"...that's why I specifically remember that one game. The next game there were three "A"s.

The Hartford Courant also calls Gernander the only captain in
Wolfpack history.
