Eastern Conference Looking Good

Where are all the "West is the Best" bandwagoneers? The East looks like the battle of Gettysburg this year, everyone is fighting like it's a couple of weeks away from the playoffs. It's funny, asnd i know it's early, but you could kind of tell which teams will make it and which ones will break near the middle and/or end. The only 3 undefeated teams are in the EAST, take that all you Colorado Detroit Dallas and St Louis fans.

The Givens:

Ottawa, Philly, Jersey

The more than Likelys:

Tampa, Long Island

The last three spots are wide open. Atlanta is going to fare very well this year as they have the right mix of players being coached very well.
I think they will compete against Tampa for their respected division.

Unless Washington shakes up their roster, fires their coach and unloads Jagr, there is no hope for this year.

Ditto for the NY Rangers.

Florida is a year or two away.
Carolina has no depth.

Pittsburgh = give me a break

That leaves 4 teams all coming from the NorthEast division.

Montreal looks good this year, will they be consistent, who knows, but they got their goaltending back. Their matchup against Detroit will be an indicator of how well they will do this season. Gainey has got them going in the right direction but they will need one more trade to become a playoff team.

Buffalo has the goaltending, but do they have a team?
Toronto looks beaten down but they still look better than half the teams in the EAST.
Boston looks decent but will Potvin get the job done? They will probably end up getting Cujo late rin the year and that will make them a PLAYOFF TEAM.

1. Ottawa
2. Philadelphia
3. Tampa Bay
4. New Jersey
5. Atlanta
6. Long Island
7. Toronto
8. Boston

------------

9. Montreal
10. Florida
11. New York
12. Buffalo
13. Washington
14. Carolina
15. Pittsburgh

This is the way i see it ending.

Ouch, Tampa beating Philly....i think after an aggressive battle with Ne york, they won't have much left in the tank to beat Philly 4 games. They will definitely have key injuries after New York and won't be a test. I think this is the year we will see Philly at least get to the conference finals. I'd love to play the Debs at that poitn as we can reak revenge against them.
