He has the right mindset. Wether he can improve his skating to get to the NHL level remains to be seen, I do like his determination

I absolutely want him to make the team this year. It's time to give some of our young guys a chance. Hope he takes advantage of the situation.

I am of the camp that thinks he eventually puts it all together and becomes the force we all want him to evolve into. Dare I say a Kesler type without the antics? However, I think he's currently being blocked by our glut of bottom 6 players.

Once management decides what to do with the likes of Flynn, Matteau, DD, Mitchell, Danault & DLR - is when he'll be ready to shine. I think he'll be in and out of the lineup this year with the 17/18 season being the one in which he solidifies his worth to the team and becomes a fixture moving forward.

DD, Flynn & Matteau will most likely be traded at the deadline or will go the way of free agency. Unless our GM pulls more bargainbin moves next off season, we have all the players internally to fill the voids.

Bottom 6 in 17/18, assuming of course the progression continues positively and no natural upgrades are brought in, should look something like this...

Carr - BigMac - Shaw
DLR - Danault/Mitchell - Byron

Which even as of today, i'd be more than fine with icing on opening night.

His ceiling, IMO, is 2C with 3RW being the floor. He's got all the tools.

Machabée said he's lost 20 pounds, not 10. Do we have the official weights for this year?

I really think he benefits from (hopefully) putting up big numbers in the AHL for another year.

If he makes the team now I feel like he'll just be pigeonholed as a bottom 6er. He should get the opportunity to be a #1 C on a pro team for awhile. Playing with really good linemates.

He's pretty much the poster boy of a kid you don't want to rush.

I think he could be an NHLer now but I just don't think it's best for him and I don't even know if he'd contribute enough to make it even worthwhile.

He did well against rookies. Can't wait to see him destroy some Sens.

With the overflow of 3rd and 4th liners no way he starts in Montreal. I do believe though that he will be a regular in the NHL for good at some point this season.

I would not say that yet. I think he should play in the top 12 but the Habs are pretty deep.

McCarron would probably get 10-10 for 20 points playing on the forth line and the occasional PP time. His physical presence is needed in Montreal more then Andrighetto's skill. But who knows what they really think or want from him. He still needs to work on his endurance and lower body strength. He's such a big guy.

I wouldn't say that either. While on performance alone, I'd give him a spot, the current situation makes it almost impossible.

I don't see who he displaces :

Patch-AG27-AG11
Lehkonen-Plek-Radu
Carr-DD-Shaw
Danault-Mitchell-Byron

The only way McCarron makes it is if he has beaten Carr for a spot. Do you think he has ?

Because barring trades/injuries.. I don't see the good in keeping McCarron as 13th/14th forward.

I doubt it
Byron and Patch are coming back, and we still have Andrighetto scratched

I know it might suck for him, salary-wise, but I think it's best for his development if he goes back to the AHL and plays on the first line with Hudon. I don't want him to turn into a Tom Wilson or 4th line specialist like Bryan Boyle.

Really like his game. Still not wowing and not a definitive top 6 player but he's smart and safe with the puck and can actually make little plays like that little drop to Carr on the ridiculous Carr goal from the other night.

I'll understand if he goes down but I'd really like to see him up for good at some point this year. I think he needs to skate at an NHL pace and would MUCH rather see him as the 3rd line centre come playoff time.

Adds a much needed element to the forward group.

Either DD is good as a third line center or he is not.
If we are going in PO and DD is good, we keep him.
If DD is not good, nobody will want him.

Matteau and Flynn are either borderline NHL or 4th line player.
They were respectively 16th and 20th in TOI/GP last seaosn.
Nodoby will need them to get in PO but at least Flynn can play SH.

Danault has earned a spot on a fourth or third line.
DLR is more complex, he needs to add some scoring in AHL.

In the expansion draft, we will loose one of DLR, Hudon, Emelin, Danault, Carr, Byron or Pateryn.
Personally, I think Pateryn will be the one picked by LV.

As for BigMac, I want him to spend at least 40-50 games in AHL or see him burn the league.
He is a better player but still in his second pro year.
We can always bring him for PO.
He did progress very well and he will be at least 3RW with a ceiling of 2C.
But I do not see him getting 50 points in season.

I love this guy but he's not ready...

He's playing on the adrenaline right now in these preseason games but he's going to suck later in the season .

He needs to get more mileage in his body by playing a lot of minutes in the AHL , If he stays around he will not get a lot of minutes .

And I would like him to keep developing his offensive game , seems like a lot of people already pinned him as a defensive 3rd line center...

Honestly, I don't think he's a fulltime player on this team until next season. He should go down to start the year but he's the first callup.

I like how he played but lets not pretend that he was so dominant that we don't have a choice but to keep him up. He's still very raw and can learn a lot from playing in the AHL and I'm sure when injuries happen he'll get his share of call-ups.

Agree with the above. McCarron brings much-needed physicality, but he's not as strong on his skates as he needs to be. He's almost there, but needs more strength and speed.

He's worked hard on the things that he's needed to improve, and it's translated into a very good training camp. He's also a tree on a team full of shrubs and brings a much needed presence that this small group just doesn't have. Creates room for himself and his teammates and quite frankly deserves a spot on this club. He won't be giving it but he's earned it over a bum like Flynn.

Talented, hard working, responsible young man with a presence. If he keeps improving, he should be our captain down the road.

If he stays in the AHL the entire year does that make him safe from expansion?
