Teemu has taken a big step forward. He plays in Ilves' no. 1 defensive pair with Canadian Cory Murphy, the league's leading scorer among defensemen.
Teemu's role is to stay back when Murphy carries the puck, but he's also been very solid with the puck. Jääskeläinen has developed into a good two-way defenseman. He doesn't hit much, but he plays his man off the puck very effectively. Teemu is a smart player who sees the ice well and moves the puck nicely.
Jääskeläinen has 2 goals, 1 assist, 8 pim and he's +5 in 12 games so far this season. So far, he's been one of Ilves' (second in the league table) most pleasant surprises. Teemu has definitely got NHL potential, but he still needs a solid full season or two.
