I think when a GM makes a trade their intentions are to improve their team. This is not always the case but you have to at least give credit for the effort. The fact that their has been no trades from the Kings indicates one or more of the following to me.
1. Taylor and/or upper management think this team is good enough to win the cup.
2. Taylor and/or upper management has no intentions on making a push for the cup.
3. Mediocrity has become so accepted in the organization that to attempt to stray from the norm frightens those in charge.
4. This is about making money for the ownership no more no less. If the Kings happen to get past a round in the playoffs.......good for them.
At this point if Taylor just acquired a 3rd line checker I would at least think that he is doing something......Other than scheduling Petiot for his 6th plane trip in the last 2 weeks.

It could also be that Taylor and the scouting staff hasn't found any player who can improve the team and is available. Or the asking price for the players they are interested in is more than what they are willing to trade.
Trading is about managing your assets to build a contending team. DT has managed his assets pretty well, such as trading away Aulin and Anshakov to give the Kings some kind of chance to compete last season. Trading a low pick for a #5/6 defenseman (Dempsey), getting a second liner (Stumpel) with 2 picks...
You're free to criticize DT for not finding the right players, but one thing he's done which I admire, is held onto his valuable assets, and build a team with many unheralded players.
