Jessiman Looks Very Good

Went to the game in Hartford last night. Jessiman looks like a much better player than at the beginning of the year. After a slow first period, Jessiman played extremely well, showing his great hands and creativity with his passes. He also threw about three huge checks, and took the puck to the net.

His skating looked good - he looks like the player we were hoping for. Hopefully his ice time will continue to increase and he gets some pp time. Looking forward to watching him this weekend.

You said he's becoming the player we were expecting, what player were we expecting?

After seeing him score 2 beautiful goals on Atlanta Thrashers goalie Mike Dunham in Gwinnett on a rehab start I knew he was ready for Hartford. His first goal on Dunham, he had him tottaly frozen. He has been throwing his body all year in Charlotte, been in a few fights.

Well scoring like Dunham is much like scoring on Weekes, might as well have an empty net there. lol

This is very good news. Huge(no pun intended) expectations for Jessiman from many Rangers fans. A lot of folks were disappointed in his early season start for the Pack as was I. Nothing to be disappointed with on how he handled the demotion to Charlotte. He really seems to have his head in the right place. As we've talked about often on these boards the mental part of the game seems to such a critical factor. While I believe Jessiman will need lots of time to grow into his large frame, his mind seems to have a maturity beyond his years.

Disagree Jessiman seems like more of a playmaker then just pure goal scorer. I'd compare his passing to that of Bertuzzi type. Guys like LeClair, Daze, Krispy Keith are more goal scorers.

well let's not get carried away with one game...it's great that he came up and looked like he belonged on the pack, but he's gotta keep that up and start scoring some goals and collecting points. and it's still a ways from the AHL to the NHL. i don't expect him in the NHL next year or anything, but as long as he can stick in the AHL now and show improvement then i think we can say at least his development is back on track

He has to stick in the AHL now. I can see management giving him a long look in camp, this season they talked about having him play with jagr, obviously that did'nt work out but if he has a healthy season and keeps his timing he could make the team out of camp. Its all depends how he finishesthis year, what shape hes in for camp and if there is a spot that he can fight for.

I have faith in Hugh, from the start we all new he was a project yet people have lost faith after half a pro season. He's a great kid who works hard, has the physical tools to be a pro and is 6'5 which always helps. I have faith he'll play in the NHL, it's just a matter of wether it will be with the Rags or not.

i think they'll have patience with him...but again he has to show improvement in order to earn that patience. like i said, i just hope he sticks in the AHL now and starts putting up some points. i don't expect him to dominate right now or something, but start showing some scoring ability in the AHL and keep throwing the body around, playing hard...build on that for next year and then hopefully transition to the NHL if we're lucky

i'd actually take that. he's a hard nosed hockey player who can score...never gonna win a scoring title or anything but brings a lot of other things to the team.

but i don't know if their playing styles are similar at all...i don't really see it like that

I heard that he was pretty invisible in the game except for a couple of hits.

They need to put him on a scoring line. How about Giroux and Taffe. You will see more points from him.

I'd be very happy with that as well.

Presumably the Rangers drafted Jessiman because he had a large frame combined with better than decent skating and play making ability. The fact that he was born in NYC did not hurt either. These factors added up to too much hype and expectation. When Jessiman stumbled out of the gate this year there was disappointment. But I believe the key to Jessiman evolving beyond being just another Jeff Toms type player are the character, attitude and overall mental toughness he has. I think those intangibles are what give Jessiman the chance to elevate his game beyond the ordinary. A big man like Hugh will have to demonstrate a willingness to pay the price. He will need to constantly drive to the net, take punishment, and create space and opportunity for his team mates and himself. This first game with the Pack showed some of what was likely missing at the time of his first demotion. It will be interesting to see if he delivers this effort consistently from here on out.

He's also not a complete ***** like Daze is. Daze is one of the worst comparisons for Jessiman there is. Unless you say a Daze who will hit and has a mean streak. But then that isn't Eric Daze.
