They say that hes not done yet with Hockey and that the Devils would pay half of his salary for a trade. He could help us on the powerplay and defensively for the rest of the year. He would be cheap, Habs could get rid of him at the end of the year and then look for a D-man. We all know what hes capable of and as a 6th D-Man he wouldnt have too many responsabilities.

Yes or No?

No, play Komisarek or Streit instead

Komisarek is our future, and Streit is improving slowly, but constantly.

Umm...the devils couldnt pay half his salary in a trade. The new CBA does not allow cash in player transactions.

But I say no..too much money. Money we could spend elsewhere.

I don't think the ice time is his problem. He probably could handle #1 minutes on many teams, including Montreal. The question is: would he want to?

The media hated him here, I doubt the habs would be interested even if his salary was low.

You are giving way too much power to the media. Since Andre Savard and Gainey are GM,s they certainly did not trade away or acquire a player that the media wanted. Media is just an annoying buzz around that team. They are in a fierce competition against each other and need to stir the pot to get some juicy stories. The only power they have is ON US !

I *assume* what he's referring to is taking a shot at Malakhov on waivers if the Devils were to send him down and call him back up.

I say no thanks. Keep the cap space in case we can make another move, and Streit/Komisarek are more than capable of filling spots 5 and 6 on our D while Markov is out.

For $3.6M or just for $450K, I don't think Malakhov has the heart to play hockey at the NHL level anymore. At least not on anything like the consistent basis I would want for my team. Streit and Komisarek may not be better than Malakhov at his best, but they are much better than Malakhov at his worst, and thus if the averages are the same, I'd rather invest our icetime in players who might have a future. But of course, since his salary is where it is, it's a totally moot point; we can't even remotely consider him.

I'd take him for half that salary and stick him on the third pair with limited minutes. It's what he wants anyway and he'd do a great job no doubt. He was great for Philly in that role until they promoted him to more minutes, then his play tailed off. I seem to remember him saying he didn't like hockey all that much at one point...lol
