Surely. I opted for 5v5 because I was going to include shot attempt metrics as well.

Kevin Hayes:
494 mins
6 goals
10 assists (only one of them secondary, that's insane)
16 points
1.94 points per 60

Jimmy Vesey:
648 mins
11 goals
8 assists
19 points
1.76 points per 60

Which means Vesey got double the PP time (50 mins vs 100 mins) than Hayes did at this point in their rookie years, and Hayes still outpaced Vesey.

So, Hayes was better in the first half, and then exploded in the second half.

Unless Vesey goes off in the 2nd half of the season, which we have no objective reason to believe, especially because all I've been hearing about is 'rookie wall', then their rookie seasons shouldn't be compared.

Should've added to that post that I don't necessarily disagree, but I don't like wild accusations thrown without some sort of merit!
Important to note that the 100 extra minutes on a kid coming out of college hockey with scheduling that is much more lenient is probably taking an even bigger toll on the kid

Oh okay, so let's do this then. Here's Hayes through 47 games...

All situations again to keep everyone happy:

47 games
572 minutes
7 goals
12 assists
19 points
1.99 points per 60

And Vesey again to remind everyone:
648 mins
11 goals
8 assists
19 points
1.76 points per 60

Should I find the point in the season where Hayes played 648 all situation minutes? Okay.

52 games played
649 minutes
10 goals
15 assists
25 points
2.31 points per 60

Any way you cook this, you're going to find that Hayes's rookie season is better than Vesey's. This doesn't really matter, though, because Hayes's rookie season was ****ing great.

Thank you sir for the stats. They seem pretty even up to this point (all ice time included). If Vesey can mustard up 15 points in the last 37 games or whatevet is left, then i would say they are pretty comparable. But yes, Hayes obviously will have had the better rookie year unless Vesey throws up 25 more points which is highly unlikely.

5v5 play since Buch returned from injury, via Corsica hockey.

12 games
They are separated by 8 mins of ice time (Vesey 150 to PB 142, so I'll use raw #s in lieu of per 60).

Goals:
Both - 2

Assists:
Vesey - 0
PB - 5 (2 primary)

relSA%:
Vesey - -3.36%
PB - -1.13%

relxGF%
Vesey - -11.40%
PB - -2.06%

relGF%
Vesey - -35.98%
PB - -4.05%

Lol, can't wait until Buch scores the fifth goal in a 5-0 blowout and then our defense lets in four.

Congrats to those of you who chose Skjei before the season started, which as I recall was like 10 of you.

I was hoping he'd have a big year, but I went with Buchnevich. Didn't expect the Grabner emergence or injuries.

Vesey had a pretty disappointing rookie season. I don't know how anyone can be happy with 27 points in 80 games from a guy who was supposed to be so NHL ready, and played mostly in the top 9 with tons of trust from the coach.

Skjei probably had the better season than Buchnevich, but Buchnevich was more effective in the minutes he played, he just didn't play the amount of games or have the same leash that Skjei did from AV, so its kind of an uneven comparison. Both had good rookie seasons by most measures, I think, and have taken steps in the right direction for their NHL futures. I'm still not sure about Vesey, but hope he proves me wrong.

Vesey has 6 more points playing in 39 more games and playing on higher lines. Not sure how he was better than Buchnevich.

Buchnevich should have had the better rookie season, but he was held back by the injury, the coach and the Tanner.

I see I didn't take part in the poll. That's okay.

1. Skjei
2. Vesey
3. Buchnevich

Should say however that Skjei was the most physically ready and that he still has a bunch of things to work on.

As for Vesey and Buchnevich--I think their impact is going to be greater next year and that I expect Buchnevich when he fills out a bit and gets stronger and a bit cagier is going to be better than Vesey at least from an offensive perspective. Whether he'll be better than Skjei I don't know. 39 points for a first year defenseman is pretty ****ing good and Skjei though he's prone to **** ups is not a defensive nightmare---with his skating, puck movement, defensive play and point production he has first pair written all over him.

Would have been extremely hard to top Skjei's season.

Just my opinion. I think Buchnevich is weaker than Stepan along the boards. He needs to build up some strength and get some grit.
