You can watch both feeds in most places but it still hurt the ratings either way on a national level. Plus, having Canadian teams don't help.

Take this with a grain of salt, since it's coming from TVAS who certainly has an interest at stake, but...

Does TVA Sports even have that many subscribers? I suspect it includes numbers from the CBC/SN broadcast.

EDIT: From comparing the first 2 games of each series to last year, and excluding games that were on NBC or NHL Network, the national numbers are actually UP from before, despite there being 5 Canadian teams. I guess the Canadian markets do bring a bit of hype down south.

2016 average: 484k
2017 average: 544k

Only the Boston and Pittsburgh markets are blacked out in Round 1 and the reason given is that NESN and ROOT to not stram.

It's not really out of line with what RDS would claim to get for Canadiens playoff games.

Good too see playoffs numbers has been up overall. Maybe the new stars are draws? Despite being in Canada.

But even if it was, it does not work like that.
Hockey ratings in the US are highly reliant on local markets.
Even MTL, the supposed "special" Canadian team doesn't draw outside of a matchup with a big traditional US market.
I would say both of those defensemen have big personalities as well as lots of skill Both are fun to watch and could help sell the game so that it is not so reliant on being in a big traditional market to draw an audience.
Then again I am a Sens fan with a soft spot for Nashville.

I'm talking NBC the main channel. Their regular season and playoff ratings are terrible. The time slots in the afternoon are bad, but even at night they get like 2-3 million in primetime on a channel that is in 110 million households?????

By the wording, it cannot possibly include CBC/SN. However, it can possibly include the 30K or whatever that were watching TVAS2 for whichever game was played on TVAS2.

2 millions Canada-wise would be sortof weak for a Canadiens playoffs game. Hell, it would probably be weak for a SENATORS playoff game.

If there are 7.3 million francophones in Canada and two million of those are watching the game on a cable channel. I assume the Anglophones would be watching the game on CBC or SN. In the US that would be equivalent to having 90 million people watching the game on NBCSN!!

There might be Anglophones watching on TVAS, too. The number is probably not huge, but it's certainly... there.

There could be some Anglophones. However, there would be very few considering there is an English broadcast available on CBC, which is non-cable.

As a montrealer, why the heck would i want to watch a french broadcast when i can watch it on CBC/SN??

1 word..... GRAPES...

French ppl here hate him, but man, do i love that guy. He makes me so happy when i watch him. He's a mix between Donald Trump and Archie Bunker, a bit more Archie though.

If you look at things that way, every show is doing terrible numbers but the Super Bowl and President Debates.

Okay there's been a weeks worth of playoff games. Where are the local ratings?

In Boston how are the Bruins compared to the Celtics?
How about the Caps and Wizards?
Leafs and Raptors?
Hawks and Bulls?
Ducks and Clippers?
Sharks and Warriors?

It's 2017, why can't we get this information?

The NBA's ratings will blow these out of the water, it is sad how bad some of these ratings are.

It's not 2 million Canada-wide for those ratings, it's TVA only. Like I said, not out of line with what RDS was getting in 2014. Habs draw big ratings when you add their French + English together.
