For the statisticians

What is the record for assists by a goalie? (In a season/career)

Grant Fuhr had 14 assists in 1984-85.
Tom Barrasso had 48 career assists.

No one is going to touch that 14 assist record. Not many goalies move the puck that well. And what are the chances that the goalie will start an end to end rush in today's NHL?

Give DiPietro time.

I agree. Just re-visited that record the other day. Truly mind-boggling.

Fuhr was a decent stickhandler, but that number speaks to the absurd firepower in front of him more (Gretzky, Coffey, Messier, Kurri, etc.) than anything else.

Yep, Fuhr dish it to Coffey who would rocket end to end and score himself or more likely set-up another Oiler for the goal.

For people that only remember Coffey at the end they missed a devastating offensive player. IMO the 2nd scariest player on those Oilers teams.

Unfortunately I got into hockey fairly late (about 92) and most of what I saw of Coffey was in his time with the Wings. Still I have to say that I have not seen another defenseman carry an offense like he did. I remember games where it seemed every single offensive play that Detroit made originated with Paul.

Oh yeah, we're talking about goalies. I didn't want anyone to forget that Hextall has the modern age record for goals (that the goalie actually put in the net) with 2.
