Question about the rookies....

I figured I would bring this up. The Olympics is almost a 3 week break, and I don't forsee any of our rookies being injury replacements at all. Does anyone else think Richards, Carter, Umberger, along with Meyer and Jones be sent down to the Phantoms during the break?

Two reasons:

-keep them in game shape

-help them find their games.

A few other times this year for other teams where rookies were sent down for a while and came back and did well (Bochenski for one)

As long as they are injury free i say send them down, as you said it could help their game to get more icetime, especially their offense which has been lacking lately.

I wonder if it would save us a few bucks angainst the cap aswell.

I'm not sure if Carter and Richards have two way contracts. I know the other three do.

I'd prefer just to give the kids some time off. If they came to Hitch and asked to go down, then that might make it different. But, the season is long and grinding, and I'm sure they would enjoy some days off; make them fresh for when the season re-starts.

They all have two way contracts. All entry level contracts are two way contracts.

Both Richards and Carter need the time off. They are both roster players on the Flyers, they don't need to play with the Phantoms.

i think it may be a good idea. with guys like sim and carter tearing itup last year it would be good to give them a liitle of that. Remeber the stuff Carter was doinf when he started scoring and getting more and more confident. I think that it is a great idea.

I wouldn't have them play with the Phantoms during the whole break. My idea is to give them off from Feb. 12-20.

Then I'd have the join the Phantoms and play the games on 2/22, 24, & 25.

That's not correct at all. Richards and Carter have one way contracts.

When Carter started off slowly, everyone wanted him sent down, but that wasn't going to happen why? Because he'd be claimed off waivers.

Rosters are frozen for the Olympic break.

Well, provided that they would not play a Sunday Phantom game on 2/12 (3 games in 3 nights traveling all 3 days) they would have 5 days off before the Phantoms' next game and then 5 more days off before the 3/1 game in New Jersey

You better recheck that there bud. Richards and Carter have two way contracts. It's mandatory in all entry level contracts.

Carter couldn't be claimed if he were to go to the minors anyways. He has three seasons before he would become waiver eligible

Well I've been under the impression, as a lot of people have, particularly when Carter was struggling, that he couldn't be sent down.

People were begging for him to be sent to the Phantoms, and the common response was "he can't be".

I don't care enough to look it up.

I think that "rosters are frozen for olympic break" makes this impossible.

not 100% sure though

I have no problem with Meyer and Jones getting time with the Phantoms but I would let Carter and Richards go home, relax, etc...

NO WAY You send them down and one brakes a leg. They would be bad. Give them the same timeoff. Richards has be concussed this year and Carter had monno. They can use the break.

Um, look what up? There's nothing to look up.

ALL entry level contracts are two-way. Without exception.

I think the other major question is, would sending them down save money against the cap? You could always send them down and scratch them, would they have to travel with the team? It's certainly an idea worth exploring, every little bit under the cap counts.
