Columbus fans, Is this guy legit?? It's clear that tortorella loves him even though he may not say it but he seems to be putting up points like crazy.

Still uneasy with him. He's getting a ton of assists but our teams offense is on fire right now.

Yes. Something I have noticed is that he is beginning to drive the play along the boards in the offensive zone. He's having a breakout season, and we will quickly forget about that Johansen guy

Plus, he has really learned how to get through NHL defenses. His stick handling has really improved since his rookie year. His passing has always been sublime.

The Jackets were hemmed in in the third the other night against the Ducks, and Wennberg flattened Rakell and then broke out of the zone. I think it changed that game.

I didn't see that play, so it's so hard for me to believe Wenny flattened someone

1st star two games ago, his dig in the corner and spin to Werenski gave us the game winner in OT. Played awesome vs the Blues. Wennberg just keep doing what your doing bud.

I heard he lost teeth last week after taking a high stick, picked them up went to the bench to hand them off then went over and won the faceoff. I saw it happen, he is making a believer out of me

I've seen him accidentally hit people and he always looked like he was sorry. This time he did it on purpose. Maybe the "swagger" is rubbing off on him.

Sadly it was just a bridge and not teeth.

Best comparison is someone like Bäckström, right?

Backstrom, or perhaps Joe Thornton-lite.

My bug-a-boo before we began the season was face-off performance for Wennberg;
Date-OppFace-offsWonLost%5-5 won 5-5 Lost
2016/10/13 vs BOS14410 28.6%37
2016/10/15 vs SJS 14 6 8 42.9% 6 8
2016/10/21 vs CHI 14 6 8 42.9% 5 8
2016/10/22 @ DAL 13 7 6 53.8% 7 5
2016/10/27 @ SJS 15 9 6 60.0% 9 5
2016/10/28 @ ANA 17 4 13 23.5% 3 10
2016/11/01 vs DAL 17 10 7 58.8% 9 6
2016/11/04 vs MTL 16 7 9 43.8% 7 8
2016/11/05 @ STL 13 6 7 46.2% 4 6
2016/11/09 vs ANA 17 6 11 35.3% 5 10
2016/11/10 @ BOS 15 7 8 46.7% 6 8
2016/11/12 vs STL 18 9 9 50.0% 9 9
Total1998911044.7%8197

There is enough in there for me to like. I will shut up about this topic, sit back and just continue to watch him grow into an NHL center.

Good Job Alex Wennberg and coaching staff - keep up the hard work.

To me, it looks like he's found another gear this season. Not just in the points column, but he just looks better and faster on the ice.

He's actually registering fewer shots on goal per game than his rookie and sophomore seasons. He's just really found another gear for his playmaking ability.

To the concerns about the face offs I understand it's a large factor of the C position but I honestly feel it can be worked around if in 2 to 3 years he just can't be consistent above 50% or at least right on that. For example he play with Fligs right now so having him take the face off then shift immediately after wouldn't be hard. For me as long as he plays responsible D and can produce 60 a year, a face off % is not important unless it is greatly having an immediate impact such as a goal being scored within 30 seconds of losing a face off being a occur occurance 5% or more. I do this see that likely though because he shouldn't be doing D zone starts unless on the PK and hopefully PLD will be our guy down the road there.

It's hard to believe you're serious.

Wennberg is playing fantastic, and it has nothing to do with points. He's off to a great start, IMO.

If Wennberg continues to move up around 47% on the draw, then there shouldn't be much to worry about. That seems about average for a young center (faceoff win % is probably the most age-effected stat). It's also insignificant even if he stayed at 47% his whole career.

I think he had a lull, maybe around the California trip, where he wasn't as involved, and he had yet to get going at 5 on 5. It was just powerplay assists. I was unsure a bit then, and I get where CBJW is coming from, I think. Since then, though, Wennberg has been good - showing some swagger.

The list of the top 25 in assists is so f***ing star studded and Wennberg is tied for 2nd. Crazy to see his name among the likes of McDavid, Seguin, Kane, Giroux..

Could be he;'s part of the reason the offense is on fire, instead of just a passenger?

His game is really good right now.. his control of the puck and passing has been so good. We don't need spectacular just steady, with a a little spectacular thrown in.

Good on ya Alex you are becoming the player they thought you would become - I have eaten crow a little, and you are making me enjoy it. Continue on in your development and you will quickly become one of my favorite players

Still only 4 ES points. Though I think that understates his contribution to his wingers, given that his defensive abilities gives them a lot more freedom. But I expect more than 4 given his role.
