Why would you conclude I think it is? The post you are responding to happens to also discuss his defensive contribution, and doesn't pretend to be exhaustive.

You continue to speak like it would be player-driven, player-affected.

Could someone give a scouting report on him?

Pass-minded, defense-minded player with excellent all-around hockey sense. Wennberg doesn't like to shoot or take the puck to the net, so he relies on wingers to do those jobs for him (and sometimes to do faceoffs for him). Wennberg likes to play in a defensive position and uses his great skating to cut off the attack. He can rack up high assist totals through excellent vision and good passing skill.

The last several games he has created chances by driving to the slot/cutting to the net and attempting a shot. I think his offensive game is really coming around.

Also to add on Wennberg- He seems more willing to take shots. He used to always just pass it off even if he had a good or open shot. I consider this progress

How many points do you see Wenner getting this season?

At some point he has to go into a slump, so my guess is 68, which is still crazy good in today's NHL.

Legit #1 center now. Poor man's Backstrom.

A regular man's Krejci.

If he keeps it up there should be some crow eating here, we've got multiple posters on record recently dumping on the idea that he'd ever become Krejci-level.

Considering I like backstroms game a ton more than Ovi's most night, I'd take this

I was just wondering what would happen if Torts switched the zone tilts of Wennberg and Dubi's lines. I think Wennberg's line is better at defense and transition and should get more d-zone starts, and Dubi's line should be getting mostly offensive zone starts.

i'd like his faceoff wins to be better to get the Dzone starts...last I checked it was low....

What I've mainly noticed about him this season is that he seems a lot stronger. I don't often see him get knocked off the puck anymore, and I've seen him lay some hits. Those seem like significant steps for him. I'd like to see his face off numbers improve, though- put me in the camp that thinks face offs are important.

He will need to improve his faceoffs, and keep scoring goals. Never did I expect Wennberg could score 20 but we will see. To be fair Krejci also usually plays on the second line, so I would assume gets less ice time. Let's not speak to soon.

I'd also like to see Wennberg produce 5v5 and not rack up all his points on the power play. Him and Foligno both with 10 Power play points.

Nah Wennberg still doesn't get Krejci-level ice time.

You're right that he has to produce more 5v5. He has just 5 points there. But interestingly 2 pts at 4v4 and 2 pts 3v3, which are the best numbers on the club.

Precisely why, paired with advanced statistics, I believe we won't make the playoffs. We can but we need to score more as team 5v5.

Edit: They are getting similar ice time actually, Krejci 2 more GP

Hockey is not played in a notebook. I wish you understood this. It might be more fun for you to just watch games without trying to figure out some numerical way to evaluate players for trades.

He never expects the puck to actually go in. That's what's funny about it to me.

His contract is up after this year......He is a RFA after this season still?

Hopefully he doesn't have the same agent as diaper rash boy we sent to Nashville

Their recent 5v5 play has been encouraging and their shot totals have been really good, and the schedule's about to get easier. It'll be a battle to the last month, but I don't think they're phonies this time.
