We didn't see the growth, the maturation, the development.

As a result, all we saw was a team that had Johansen, Anisimov and MacKenzie as the backbone of the lines, all leave the club in a matter of 14-18 months. While happy to have Seth Jones, all we say was a glaring hole.

Somebody has researched this and can tell you more accurately, but since the trade Johansen has 68 games played and is like 13-38-51. Wennberg has 62 games played and is like 10-13-41. Many think that it is easier to predict Johansen's ceiling since he is like 3 years older (6 years NHL). With Wennberg, given that this is his 3rd year of NHL, many are still wondering just what his ceiling could be.

Hope this helps.

I know it's a typo or something, just wondering what the actual numbers are?

Hey speak for yourself.

In their last 77 games:

Wennberg - 60 pts.
Johansen - 55 pts.

(It's not as pretty when you go further back, but we all knew that).

Weren't there rumblings that Wennberg was going to be the better C long ago? Not a knock on Joey, but I could swear I read somewhere that the CBJ had a very high rating for Wennberg.

IIRC, in the behind the battle episode that featured the draft preparation and scouting interviews, they believed Wennberg had a very high ceiling and could be a Backstrom/Datsyuk combination type of player.

At least in Behind the Battle episode 4 it was Wennberg himself who compared himself with Bäckström when asked of comparables. Tyler Wright said top-6 geezer after Milan Tichy described Wennberg as consistent two-way-forward who could score.

I assume Datsjuk or even Bäckström trajectory is of far later hype.

When we drafted him I thought he would be Zetterberg, but he looks more like Backstrom than Z.

Point victory for Wennberg since after getting hit into the bell tower the puzzled ringo turned the bout into Greco-Roman wrestling? Somewhere there is a toothless Canuck waiting.

Coach Tortorella almost seemed giddy in his post game Calgary press conference when he was asked about Wennberg's fight. It's not so much that Wenny kicked Tkchuck's ass, but that he stood up for Saad. Tort's had a little blow-by-blow recap. Nice!

This kid is ridiculous. He has to be among the league's best playmakers already. His vision and hands are utterly ridiculous. Some of these passes leave me with my jaw dropped.

That was easy. They was hand-picked! They was good fighters, but they wasn't killers.

Posted this in the mains: 6 centers were taken ahead of Wennberg in the 2013 draft. Mackinnon, Barkov, Lindholm, Monahan, Horvat, Domi.

Guess who's got the most points this season.

He has everything needed to become a very good center. Don't know if he's a #1 or a #1b but he can skate, has great vision and passing ability and is starting to shoot and score more. So much talent. Can only get better.

He just needs to learn how to fight

Wennberg is getting better and better, I don't need him to fight but the fact that he will, makes all the difference

56-49 in his last 6 games on the dot. I know it's not WOW!, but he's shown a slow improvement month over month this year in the circle and I think going close to 53.3% over a 6 game stretch would have been unimaginable for wennberg before this season. So, I'm just glad to see slow improvement here.

The things he does on the ice are jaw dropping. Best passer the CBJ have ever had IMO.

Considering that was his last major area of weakness that's a huge relief if he can keep that up.

I love the way Wenny skates with the puck. He's turned into such a confident player who oozes skill. Such a pleasure to watch!

on a side note - a bit off topic - but imagine if we had been a bit luckier in the draft lottery and selected second and took Laine! WOW. A Saad-Wennberg-Laine line would be disgusting....not to mention how much deeper the rest of the lineup would be.

Really shooting the puck a lot more the past handful of games. Hes been a solid #1 C this year. I like his shot, and i think as he gets more comfortable he will start scoring more.

Or having 2/3 of the players contending for a Calder... Werenski and Laine having the seasons they are on the same team..

Cam is great and all, but imagine Laine in that spot, across the ice from Wennberg and just below Werenski

Sounds nice, but it's really tough to argue against Cam's season so far.
